Wow, this takes me back. Still one of my favourite games. Never finished the game, weirdly. The world and characters are enough for me to put it as an all time fave, though.

I love this little melody so much I literally would visit the farm to hear it. Now, since I cannot play the game, I just listen to this video. I wish I knew the composer.

G3 was always my favourite of all. Dunno why.. Maybe I had shitty life at this point... But I remember going G1 and it was my first RPG... I was amazed. Then I got G2 and It BLEW MY MIND completely. And I was like 26 or 27 already... And then... Then G3... And I liked the complete freedom this game has. And swordfighting... Marvellous.... I wish I could play G3 once more sometime...

Goes down like liquid fire! I love the pirate faction in Gothic 2. They are just a bunch of chill guys. "Anything going on?" "Wait a moment..." *Looks around suspiciously* "Not as far as I can see. Same old, same old". It's just those little things in that camp.

Gothic 3 was "meh" at best and downright terrible as well as unplayable at launch, but the music worked from day one and it still holds up. I think it was overbearing at times and took me out of the game more than it helped me immerse myself in it (i.e. horns blaring at me at 150 dB because I ran across a lone Scavanger), but the production quality was truly a step up from the already amazing Gothic 2 and Kai Rosenkranz finally got the budget and resources he deserved.

Great how they completely switched things around. In G1 the area around the Old Camp is the safest in the game with scavangers, bloodflies and molerats being the main enemies. In Gothic 2 it's the most dangerous area in the game with hundreds of orcs itching to chop everything to pieces, including you. The first time entering the keep in Gothic 2 is by just making a run for it and hoping that the orcs can't catch you.

The great thing is that you're not told to go into this valley via a questmarker. Xardas mentions that there's a tunnel near his tower by a small pond that leads into the valley. But you don't have to go there unless you want to get some early combat experience and find some items. Enemies are all scaled for beginners, so they shouldn't be an issue. Going there will result in you getting some XP, some loot (scrolls, weapons, herbs) and finding Lester. Who will also tell you about another way into town via posing as an herbalist. But again, you don't have to do any of this. You can completely skip or miss this part of the game. The wonderful thing about Gothic 2 is how little handholding there is. It treats you like a sentient person, not a mindless drone who chases questmarkers who tell you where to go and what to do. Gothic 2 invites you to explore and the music is perfect in conveying the mood. It never overstays its welcome and blends in so well that you don't even notice. Which is what ambient music is supposed to do. The mood here is supposed to be dark, but not threatening. You're weak, but not helpless. If the game started hitting you with the Dark Souls boss music every time a rat came at you, most players wouldn't dare go exploring.
