Your static hold at the top of the pull-up exercise is the isometric phase range of strength training, which is one of the three phases of strength training. The other two are the concentric phase of strength training, in which the targeted muscles shorten, and the eccentric phase of strength training, in which the targeted muscles lengthen. It is good to practice all three phases of strength training to avoid muscular accommodation, in which progress stops because the body becomes accustomed to the way you do pull-ups, which is why it is good to rotate strength training methods and the way you do pull-ups. This includes changing the distance between hand placements, doing different types of pull-ups (e.g., commando pull-ups, neutral grip pull-ups, chin-ups, towel pull-ups, weighted pull-ups, and etc... I'm 67 years and 8-months old, and I like winning first prize (a free t-shirt) at the United States Marine Corps Pull-Up Challenge, which requires 25 pull-ups. I recommend doing partial reps to failure to build muscular size, endurance, more mitochondria, and capillary density and then doing strict pull-ups 2 weeks before a pull-up contest or test.

Thanks for this becca! Had 1 question: On Butterfly pull ups, when athletes' legs swing behind them, I always see a slight bend and separation. Does that mean they're not keeping tight?

Your videos are always super informative and entertaining, as here. My only beef is that Blitz does not make an appearance, not even in a post-credit scene. I read on Reddit that Blitz is only contracted for a certain number of videos and charges a lot for extra work. Still, the gravitas he brings is always money well-spent.

As you begin to stumble while losing balance & use of your legs that now have turned into expired jello. You have already accepted your fate of skin rocks & road rash. The pain that will be endured while doing simple things like taking a shower & getting dressed. But in the back of your mind you tell yourself if this must be the day of my demise I will surely go out with my head held high, for it is not a matter of being first or last place, what matters is that I have finished the race…🫡💯(just from my own over dramatic experiences while training🤣) like yep I’m going to die but at least I got’R done.”
