I envy your knowledge. You have forgotten more than I know! I have a friend and he and I have put extensive thought, experience and discussion into the movement of smallmouth in our small area of Ohio. We fish extensively a smaller river, mostly a 25 mile area that the max depth is less than 10 feet and water clarity is poor for most of the year. Our “research” consist of floating and fishing 12 months out of the year. We have kept records of catch patterns. Been involved with local tournaments, not to win, but to gain knowledge. It has been difficult at best. Our biggest issue is finding the larger smallies in summer. With very few to nearly no deep pools, we have found that catching better quality fish is tough. I have read a lot on smallmouth movement and patterns but on a body of water that is like ours, we have found nothing helpful in our search for where the best fish go after spawning? My biggest question is that some of your research says smallies move considerable distance. Based on this, what do dams do to smallmouth movement? We have 4 low dams within a 20 mile section of our river. It would seem to me if smallmouth move downstream and go over dams during floods or higher water, they cannot get back upstream. I have a million questions, would love to gain some of the knowledge you have. Any suggestions on reading for river smallmouth movements?

Rapala X-Raps are my favorite slashbait / jerkbait. A PHENOMENAL lure that was and still is WAAAY ahead of its time and who invented the weight transfer system in a jerkbait… the Rapala X-Rap. I can’t believe how Beautiful, realistic and what jewels 💎 those lures are! -AND THEY CAME OUT IN THE TURN OF THE 21ST CENTURY! IN LIKE 1999 or 2000! And THEY ARE STILL SELLING TODAY IN STORES AND LOOK SO REALISTIC! A Lure that truly was and still is ahead of its time.

Or early 2000’s. Either way the Rapala X-Raps came out a long time ago and are still relevant and sold still to this day!

Educate the locals, carp is yummy and the bones you just pick out, well unless you're eating skate or shark most other edible fishes have bones. What is the problem? Cat food maybe?

One thing I learned over the years is clinch your knot just enough don’t try to break it lol and let the fish completely clinch it for you not sure if that makes any sense idk 🤷🏽♂️

Took my brand new Battle II 5000 for a spin yesterday for the very first time and I hooked a 20lb yellowtail using a Ugly Stik X2 (medium hard) rod kzbin.infoUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . This combo was recommended on some website and it did not disappoint me. The reel is smooth, the drag click is pretty cool cause i think it adds to the excitement of fighting the fish, personally the drag is my favorite part. I use braid and 300 yards will fill the entire spool. This combo is my main setup from now on although I have to disclose I am new to fishing.
