You could always say that the Hastati do not have fancy shield designs as they couldn't afford it yet! If you use the LBMS transfers they are best applied to a white background. Not all of the Veiltes would have "earned" their wolf pelts yet so I think it is good to see a variety for these young warriors. Great job on the painting and basing!

That is an excellent idea! If I just try apply them to the front shields that are easily reachable that it an exxcelent explanation for the back ones if it becomes clear I'm not going to be able to reach. Also thanks for the tip on the white background, that's definitely caught me out before with other transfers.

Nice stuff. What red paint did you use ?
@TabletopSagas-mg7zb
@TabletopSagas-mg7zb 5 күн бұрын
For the reds I used Blood Angels Contrast paint initially, then cleaned up / highlighted using Scarlett Blood from Vallejo. Really nice paint that's got an almost orange hue to it. Although I've got an old bottle of the old formula (grey lids) not the new ones (black lids on the bottles) I'm not sure if the reformulation has had any effect on this colour (I know it definitely has a bit on their Earth paint that I use a lot of).

Looks like the turrets are out of scale . Look too small for the body . Shermans were known to be kind of tall . Even in the old photos , the turret looks a bit bigger . Dunno , not your fault .
@TabletopSagas-mg7zb
@TabletopSagas-mg7zb Ай бұрын
Yeah from what I understand from the tours at Warlord Games a common issue is accuracy of turrets on miniatures (they're often shorter and/or thicker than they should be). Unfortunately it's a limitation of the casting process, there's only so thin and so long you can have stick coming off the main body of the object without increasing the likelihood of damage to either the model or the mold itself, or even just the liquid metal can't get far enough down before cooling. As with most things in life its a balancing act between quality, reliability and quantity. But if that's the case and the choice is between a shorter barrel or no Sherman at all I know which I'll pick haha

It's a small dream of mine to finally start a 10mm army. This is brilliant, I would love to see more armies. Not to shoehorn you into anything, but there is a serious lack of channels doing 10mm armies consistently. And since yours are painted to an amazing standard, it would be amazing to see you do more. Also, I have been looking at Pendraken for so long, but only a very small percentage of their models can be previewed, so seeing you paint some up in your previous video was very enlightening.
@TabletopSagas-mg7zb

That is something I've noticed as well and definitely smaller scale is something I want to focus on, so I'm also thinking of doing terraon and eventually battle reports when I have enough. If you are interested in Pendraken ones especially, dont worry I've already got plans to use a lot of their originals and the TB Line for islamic and eastern europe so there will in the near future be some examples of those. I'm also looking forward to later in the year when they are planning to get more of the TB Line into production, you can bet I'll be showing those on the channel as well.

@@TabletopSagas-mg7zb Excellent. I have actually been thinking of doing a Warhammer-esque gaming system, but with a homebrew setting of lower fantasy, so mostly humans. Think Mount and Blade, if you've ever played that, and then the Pendor mod. Something along those lines. I always loved the imagery of early Warhammer, think 4th edition, but never liked the scale of the battles. Way too few models. So downsizing that and placing 4 or so models on one base, so to speak... Would be amazing to me. So, I will be keeping an eye out on what you will be showing. Looking forward to it.

Yeah I loved the old m&b warbands, they had some brilliant mods spent more hours than I'd care to admit to playing haha. Lower style fantasy is definitely good, have you tried Warmaster Revolution? Sounds similar to what your looking for and theres some excellent 3d sculpters producing minis for it (have a few armies myself im thinking of putting up on the channel in the future).

@@TabletopSagas-mg7zb All the sculpts meant for Warmaster are way too silly for me. They look goofy, and they always focus on the goofiest parts of Warhammer, which I always hated. For example, I like the idea of Skaven, but I don't like them running around in Doomwheels. That's just dumb. So, something more along the lines of LotR style is more to my liking. I like Copplestone's range of Dwarfs and Orcs, for example. A shame they have so few models. I am sure I can cobble together something cool with Pendraken's range as well.

I was quite impressed with the rate at which you completed them. I am hung up on colours myself on 15mm Mongols. What scale of figures to actual men are you using? I ask because if I use too big a scale, the army they will be fighting wont be represented by more than half a dozen figures, given the size of Mongol attacks.
@TabletopSagas-mg7zb
@TabletopSagas-mg7zb 11 ай бұрын
Thanks, yeah I was quite impressed myself. I painted these off while I had some time off work though and some plans fell through so I basically just had a week of nothing to do but paint. Safe to say my rate has slowed a fair bit since. Colours are definitely a problem there doesn't seem to be much good resources on them, I know Osprey are coming out with a book on the Mongols that looks really useful but it isn't due to release until March I believe, and that was a little to long for me to wait haha. These are in 10mm scale, I chose it as when scaling 28mm figures from inches scale to centimetres it would out to about 11mm so 10 was the closest I could get. I did consider 15mm myself but I was struggling to find other nations that fit the early 13th century I'm going for. There was a few really nice ones that I found for 15mm based in USA and then a few in the UK, since I'm UK based myself it made the most sense for avoiding import tax and long delivery times.

@@TabletopSagas-mg7zb Lol, I'm doing a fantasy thing. Some muppet posted that the Mongols would annihilate a USMC Regiment because they would break and be chased down. But he took all the equipment away from them and left them only with their AR15 assault rifles. So I am going to game it based on the premise that the Marines are out of place, they don't have armour, airpower or heavy artillery. However they will have section MG's, Coy MG's and Reg MG's, plus mortars, the heavy weapons support Coy and snipers. Plus of course the standard kit out for a USMC squad. Laser sighting, hand held drones for reccy, snipers, body armour which given its properties is more than capable of defeating arrows, and combined with 18" shell scrapings would be more than sufficient protection. The Mongol force size is to be a Tumen, 10,000 Mongols, capable of their biggest attack units, five waves of a thousand men. I believe a USMC Regt can be up to 1400 men with all the ancillaries. But the Mongols would be able to put two massive charges in from two directions. Oh, I forgot claymores. Given how Omdurman turned out in a very similar set up I just can't see the Mongols be successful, especially as they were not stupid and knew when to withdraw.
@TabletopSagas-mg7zb

Sounds like an interesting one to play out, not sure where you'd find a system that even closely represents the difference in firepower of a modern rifle compared to a bow. Id have to agree with you seems unlikely the mongols would fair well, even if the USMC only had their rifles, the efficiency of modern firearms is terrifying compared to any that came before it, like the bow.
