My parents and I used drive 395 almost every summer in the early 60s. What a beautiful part of calif. I'm 76 now but I remember being with the people that I loved so much. Thank you for bringing bringing so many fond memories back

Make sure you don't stop anywhere near seattle, it's turned into a ever growing cesspool.

I've lived in CA my whole life, and have never been to Bodie St. Park before (the shame). Just make sure your tires and suspension are in top form when you get to the unpaved section, and be careful about fishtailing as well.

Mono County was born from Mariposa County (which has the oldest courthouse still in use today, thank-you very much). The drive from Bishop northward is the best section of the CA 395, easily, in terms of scenery. Just make sure your brakes are in good shape before you take on Conway Summit though.

Gas prices are much higher. Because Joe and Hunter Biden aren't making enough from the importation of fentanyl.

Think gas in Cali is expensive now? Wait until that bill your Gov. Newsome pushed through to add another $2.00 a gallon in gas taxes goes into effect in what I believe is two years.

Someday I've got to make this trip myself. I live in L.A. these days but I born in Poughkeepsie, NY where W.S. Bodey was from but even more coincidental, I grew up on the same street. Although 100 years after him. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W._S._Bodey

Fresno isn’t so bad! I just really dislike the extreme heat during summer and the d pollution. But overall, I like it. I lived in San Francisco for 3 years and that place was horrible. I’ll take Fresno over San Francisco any day.

Very cool!..It will be a decade at least for I-11 to be completed, if it's ever completed.
@dhinton13 күн бұрын
the whole I-11 corridor in Arizona still hasn't been finalized (the portion around Tucson proper is the last hangup left). ADOT (I believe) is working on funding to upgrade all of US93 between Wickenburg and the I-40 interchange up to interstate standards. That probably WILL happen within the time frame you mentioned.
@briane1734 күн бұрын
18:10 It would be a natural extension of I-40 and certainly a designation the State should want to happily give up, inasmuch as 90% of construction costs to upgrade the entire highway to Interstate standards, and 50% of maintenance costs thereafter, would be borne by the Federal Govt -- which presently is getting no real support from anyone in Congress save for those representing these districts. So until then it's Sacramento's problem, and they're too busy spending taxpayer money on crony capitalism and bathing/feeding/clothing illegal aliens to be bothered with road maintenance.
@briane1734 күн бұрын
1:31 To think that you're driving over a 3-mile deep pile of sediment that before it was deposited as an ocean basin -- an inland sea between the Sierra Nevada range and the Franciscan Complex (Coast Range). Sea level back then was 600 feet above your head; as a consequence you'll find within those grass foothills millions upon millions of 15 million-year-old shark teeth and other fossils (megalodon primarily).

I'm glad ADOT has learned its lesson about building the urban sections of a freeway before the rural sections, thus the work on the Kingman interchange first. It doesn't look like US 93 has much to upgrade except for eliminating the grade crossings and resurfacing.

Why doesn’t California state route 23 continue north of where it ends in Fillmore as a second freeway connecting Fillmore and Bakersfield west of interstate 5. The main issue would be the terrain in the Los Padres National Forest is too rugged to continue California state route 23 north of where it currently ends.

Also don’t forget that there’s a Scenic View Rest Area where you can see Lake Mead! On the other side of the road it’s called Willow Beach Scenic Overlook! It’s about 20 minutes or 20 from the Dam

Man I’ve made this trip a time or two! First time was when I moved to Vegas in 76, having grown up in Phoenix and what would turn out to be my first and true love lived in Phoenix, so I was making trip back then every weekend 😇 up until 84, then I moved to Southern California, so I then made a lot trips back to Vegas! Until 1999, when I moved back to Vegas after divorce, But found that Girl I use to drive to Phoenix and see! She had moved to Vegas from Phoenix and since we both grew up in Phoenix we both had family and friends still there, so from 99 to 08, we would go to Phoenix around 4/5 times a year! So all of those trips were before the new overpass at the Hoover Dam. I also remember that first week after 9/11 we had a trip planned and that was the first time they stopped you at the Dam, the first couple times was surreal and initially I think we all thought that in a year or so they would stop the check point! 24 years later it’s here for ever now. It is nice having two lanes all the way. In 21 I moved back to Arizona and have made the trip about 15 times, a couple of those trips especially from Vegas I took Boulder Highway to Boulder City Parkway, old 93 and making the left turn and taking it all the way into Hoover Dam access road to the Dam, then driving all the way up to where it’s now blocked off, which was Kingman wash Rd, and was the exit point before the over pass. They are supposed to have the Kingman bypass done in 2027, they are already working on it, so hopefully in 26 or 27 they fix or repave the 93 or 11 by then. P.S. nice video 😇

Nice one, Kyle. I went over Hoover Dam on 93 on a family trip coming back from Dallas in 1985, when most of 93 between Kingman and Nevada was still two lanes. That rough stretch you were on and mention might have been the original two lane highway.

I’ve been on I-11/93 up to Hoover Dam when I was in Vegas back in May. I walked on the pedestrian sidewalk along the side of the highway. The dam was stunning of course, but I also stopped at a lake mead viewpoint off the highway which was also beautiful!

I remember when the 93 went over the dam. This was the first time I went on the Dam tour and the first time setting foot into AZ. Lake Mead was full up in those days as well.

ADOT has posted various plans for the new 11/40 interchange in Kingman. They all look good, and they can't decide. Once that project is a go, the rest between Vegas and Kingman should follow. I-11 will follow I-40 to a point about 10 miles east of Kingman, where 93 currently slits-off.
@dhinton13 күн бұрын
as others have mentioned, the new I-11/US 93 interchange with I-40 in Kingman has been decided ... and construction has commenced on the part of the interchange that will flow I-11/US 93 traffic between Las Vegas and Phoenix. the upgrades will be completed in 2026.

For those wondering why I-11 doesn't go into Arizona, this video shows why. There's at-grade intersections on US 93 that ADOT needs to either by close off or update to interchanges before that happens. Not to mention they also need to built a bypass in Kingman. & judging from the looks of it, they're still in the planning stages of building it. But nowadays it's a quick drive between Kingman & Las Vegas. Can't picture having to drive it as recently as 15 years when most of US 93 was a dangerous 2-lane road- not to mention having to enter NV via Hoover Dam- indeed most of the time it took to arrive in Las Vegas was due to having to deal with the headache of driving over that Dam & the backlog of traffic on it. PS, fellow Road Warrior FreewayBrent has an early video driving over the then newly opened Mike O'Callaghan - Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge- ADOT was still in the process of widening US 93 to a 4 lane divided highway at the time. It's still up on YT after all these years!
