Coming from Gateron Browns and going to these Purple Pros on my GMMK compact has been a big upgrade for me. A subtle increase in tactility, but I like the straight linear style drop right after the bump. Not for everyone. I blind tested 18 of test switches including Gaterons, Kailh, and Glorious Pandas before choosing these. I tied with the Pandas, but the coat was the difference between $50 and $16 (on sale at Novelkeys) They just felt right for me. I am considering lubing, but this does reduce the tactile response, I’d stay away from the legs and bar. Mainly lube the stem body and rails. The biggest improvement from sound came from dampening the board with a layer of formed packing peanuts and a layer of shelf liner between the factory foam. I’m not a fan of combining dampening with a tape mode. One or the other for me. I’m going for a smooth keystroke, with a subtle bump and mild thock, this a is my daily driver for work, I’m writing all day long. Great review, thank you for the insight.

looks good my only complaint is the raised picture frame you could tell you were getting over the project at that point I would of tried to get the acrylic flat additionally a lot of people try to fit a wireless charger as well

I cut intakes at the rear of the desk for 2 120 fans and cut a hole at the bottom for a single 120 exhaust

Hey I know this is a late moment but do you know what you did with the final blue and purple cables - Do they need to be attached or can you just leave them hanging? Also would you do the same if you didn't have LEDs or even just had one LED?

I honestly don't remember what the blue and purple went to, but my guess is they were for the reset button which I did not use. I separated the cables from each other and taped the ends so they wouldn't make accidental contact.

I dont really think it matters that much if its dc or ac seitch since all it does is momentarily connect 2 wires and then release. It has no else function 🤔

So I had the Gateron brown switches, which I hated. There was a lot of stem wobble and they sounded clackety. Also too loud for fast typing near the bedroom when the wife was sleeping. The Kailh Purple was a big step up for me, due to the higher actuation force needed. Out the box they felt good, but a bit scratchy. I invested some time and lubed them and they feel great.

I’m going to be honest, compared to other budget tactiles like Boba U4T or Kailh BOX Royal, these just don’t feel tactile at all. I got one on a switch tester and I couldn’t feel the bump at all, I genuinely thought it was a linear. If you like light tactile I still don’t think I could recommend these compared to something like Kailh BOX browns or Gateron browns. Their one saving grace is that they do have a nice sound to them.

I got a different feeling, and I think it has to do with my kewb frame. So my dad gave the custom car experience to my gmmk frame and because of the several layers of paint he gave in order to achieve the effect putting a switch was way tighter than before, as in way too tight and my fingers hurt by how hard were to put because of the tightness. Because of that some of my purples actually had a noticeable change in their bump. It got more tactile than anything. Some others had their bump too strong for my liking and I had to sort of put in and back and in until the excessive bump was no longer there. For testing I lightly lubed one of my switches (I normally use the esc key for that) and I couldn't tell a difference. One thing I can say is that its sounds was a sort of "theck", no thock sounds (except space bar).

I did not lube my Pro Purple's. I do not have the patience. They came factory lubed just fine for my preference... Blasphemy!! I know right but I did mod + lube my stabs so I'm not a total savage.

How can someone even compare figurine artists and Keycap artists. Figurines which are Handmade or very expensive afford 10000000 times more effort and time than just creating a fking color scheme and a design , then producing it overpriced as hell for just plastic. Get ur shit together and compare the Material of a figurine and keycaps before u talk. (i dont mean the guy in the video btw)

Good video bro. The 'premium' keycap market is utterly dysfunctional. Its ridiculous that you just can't get the colour keycaps you want. You can't have a monopoly over coloured plastic surely. After recently getting into mech boards I've found the keycap market to just be demoralising. I'll be going down the replica route for sure...makers that basically don't make keycaps outside small exclusive runs don't deserve the business

People being angry over buying knockoffs because it's immoral for not supporting designers is the funniest thing in the keeb world. I wonder how many of these people have illegally downloaded music,, movies and video games and NOT support the creators. A thief cannot tell another person not to steal. It's a basic principle.

The reason they do this is because they aren't thinking in particular. They know that it's the popular, high status opinion to have in subreddits or social media. They can easily be found out to be hypocrites in the way you have said or by thte fact they don't care if the market finds a solution that doesn't affect the artist one way or another. If you buy a clone or from secondary market the artist gets zero cents.

@@Ratherniche True, in comparison though, the artist doesn't lose as much as you would if you were to download a song for free. With a lot of GMK gbs, it goes on for one month only and never comes back again unless the creator wants to run it. So should he have monopoly over the color scheme and the whole community just wait for an indefinite amount of time just to support the creator and overpay for plastic that actually costs less to make? That's pretty high expectations and unrealistic for a hobby that's already very expensive.

Thanks ! For the most part yes, the thermals definitely aren’t any worse than when I had it in my h500i case. I’ve since hinged the frame on top of the desk, so when it’s under heavy load I can lift it for some extra airflow
