I totally get what you're saying, and I think you’re making a really insightful point. Elijah Mikaelson, from seasons 1 to 4, often feels like he’s playing the role of the "noble" Mikaelson brother too perfectly-almost like he’s stuck in that polished, poetic, and composed persona. It’s as if he’s so focused on the role of being a proper, controlled, family-loyal vampire that we don’t get to see the actor, Daniel Gillies, put much of his own personality into the character. He’s nonchalant, yes, but perhaps a little too rigidly so, making him feel a bit distant and scripted. Then, in season 5, when Elijah loses his memory, we see a completely different side of him. Without the constraints of his past identity, he’s more vulnerable, confused, and human-almost like we’re seeing Daniel Gillies let more of his real self shine through. This version of Elijah feels more authentic, less bound by the perfection of the character he’s been playing for so long. It’s refreshing to see him outside of the suit, not so composed, and more connected to what feels like a real human experience, even if he’s still a vampire. In earlier seasons, Elijah is very much the ideal of what he’s supposed to be: calm, poetic, and controlled. He’s playing the role of the eldest Mikaelson brother to a T, but we miss out on a bit of that raw, real humanity that could make him more relatable or engaging on a deeper level. But in season 5, when he’s stripped of that, he becomes more interesting because we finally get to see him as not just Elijah Mikaelson the character, but a bit of who he might be without all that weight of expectation and nobility. It’s like he becomes more relatable, more flawed, and more open to interpretation. I think it’s fascinating that you picked up on this shift, and it shows how much a character can change when the actor is given more room to play with who they are beneath the surface.

I think Mexico served more purpose than just for Miguel to be disappointed. When Miguel saw Johnny there looking for him, he realized Johnny is his family / surrogate father. And of course, Mexico was also used to mend Johnny and Robby's relationship. Nonetheless I do think the Mexico story arc wasn't well executed

There was a point where I couldn't decided who was more annoying Davina or Cami, however it is pretty sad how Davina didn't have any real family, I think they touched on her real family once, but she had all that magic, yet never wanted to look for any of her real family? They for sure built Marcel up to be a big bad only to have him show his true strength in like 2 episodes, Marcel fought Aya harder as a normal vamp than he fought Klaus as a New Original, I don't understand why they made him a new original only to make him a backseat weak vamp in season 4 and 5. They always did Rebekah dirty, they let her get cooked by baby vamps all the time. BS way to kill off Hayley, for all the times someone had their hand in Hayley's chest ready to rip out her heart for the writers to kill her off by suicided in total BS, it would have been a cool plot twist to have had Hayley be the one to kill Klaus off to save Hope in the end, Elijah should have already been dead from Marcel as revenge for killing him, Davina, killing Thierry, and being exiled in season 1 or 2 I agree this show pissed me off a lot but I think it was way better than most other Vampire TV shows or movies. I believe Joseph Morgan's great acting made Klaus there's not another soul alive who could have played him better. For me Vampire stories started with Interview with the Vampire and Blade, I think The Originals if cut down to a Movie without all the fluff and plot wholes would be a top tier Vampire Movie.

Once upon a time in the town of Charming, there lived the most dangerous and most handsome of outlaws. His intelligence surpassed the most deadly of his enemies. He was loyal to those who stood with him and brutal to those who went against him. He was said to have bedded many women, but only one in particular was most special to him and had his heart. He was a fierce defender of his brothers and loved his children most of all. Some say he had a heart of gold but lost it. Some say he found it. His name was Jackson Teller

The Originals was a decent show to me, but far better than The Vampire Diaries. The actors in this had the advantage of having already been in these roles for a few seasons in The Vampire Diaries, so that just made it better. Pulling the focus away from the nonsensical romance was a big win, however, like most shows, it became horrible in the long run. I was not a fan of seasons 4 or 5. Still worth giving it a try though.

The character Klaus Mikaelson was originally meant to be killed off in The Vampire Diaries (2009), but the character's ever increasing popularity granted him survival and a spin-off show. Nathaniel Buzolic, the actor portraying the role of Kol Mikealson, auditioned and was almost cast as Stefan Salvatore in The Vampire Diaries (2009). Joseph Morgan is married to Persia White who played Bonnie's Mother in The Vampire Diaries (2009). Nathan Parsons who plays the werewolf Jackson, left the show during season one to play a vampire on HBO's True Blood (2008) only to return to his werewolf character in season two after the series ending of "True Blood". Only one of the Mikaelson children is American: Riley Voelkel. Joseph Morgan is English, Claire Holt and Nathaniel Buzolic are Australian, Daniel Gillies is from Canada and Casper Zafer is a British actor. Devon Allowitz is also an American, but he's excluded since his character Henrik has only appeared in archive footage in the series. Leah Pipes (Camille O'Connell) was the victim of cyber bullying for the duration of her time on the show because she played Klaus' love interest. Fans wanted Klaus with either Caroline Forbes (Candice Accola from The Vampire Diaries (2009) to whom Klaus had a previous attraction) or Hayley Marshall (Phoebe Tonkin). Daniel Gillies was born in Canada but raised in New Zealand. In the TV series Saving Hope he speaks in his original accent, whereas in this series he uses a neutral American accent, except during flashbacks where he sounds slightly British 'La Fleur De Lys' is a symbol on the logo of The Originals and represents French royalty. This was chosen carefully for the show as the basis of the storyline is the Mikaelson family trying to rule the French Quarter of New Orleans. Name meanings: Esther and Mikael are names in the Old Testament as is Rebekah. Freya is a Scandinavian name for Goddess of Love, Fertility and Beauty. Finn is an Irish name for "Fair" and also a Nordic name meaning "Man from Finland". Elijah is Hebrew for "My God Is Yahwe". Niklaus and Kol are both Slavic names meaning "Victory of the people". Which are also common in America without the meaning. Henrik is a Dutch name that means home ruler. Both Claire Holt (Rebekah Mikaelson) and Nathaniel Buzolic (Kol Mikaelson) were recurring characters on Pretty Little Liars (2010). Alice Evans (Esther) plays Daniel Gillies' (Elijah) mother, but in real life, she's only 10 years older than him Joseph Morgan (Klaus), Phoebe Tonkin (Hayley), Nathaniel Buzolic (Kol), Claire Holt (Rebekah) and Daniel Gillies (Elijah) have previously worked together in The Vampire Diaries (2009). In an interview Leah Pipes (Camille O'Connell) stated that in one take of Klaus and Cami's second bar scene in 1x18, Joseph Morgan got so into the scene that he kissed her on the mouth, which took her by surprise. Julie Plec initially intended to kill off Josh at the end of season 1, but the writers threatened to never forgive her if she did so. Phoebe Tonkin has played a mermaid, a werewolf, a witch, a vampire and (now) a hybrid in her time in acting. She says she would rather play those characters than ordinary ones. Rebekah has the longest connected sireline among the Originals. Klaus is technically back at zero since he was unlinked to his sireline, while Elijah, Kol, and Finn's sirelines don't exist anymore. In the trailer for The Originals season 4 Klaus reads the poem 'A Poison Tree' by William Blake (as a voice-over) to describe the relationship between him and Marcel. This poem is also used as a voice-over in season 1 episode 6 'A Poison Tree' to describe Klaus' relationship with Eljiah and his relationship with Marcel. After Camille and Klaus finally kissed in season 3, many toxic viewers on twitter have sent Leah Pipes (Camille) death threats. It is this reason why the actress has decided to leave the show and the character was killed off. Many suspected these toxic fans are shippers of Klaus' first romance from The Vampire Diaries, Caroline. Klaus Mikaelson is a hybrid. This makes him both werewolf and vampire, which means he is still technically alive and can have children.

I think Mexico was a set up for something to come in season 6. I'm sure we will see Miguel's dad again and he will probably crash the wedding and a big fight will happen... (imagine me saying this with a tired voice and gosh I hope so much they don't go for a wedding..) Johnny has to be the one to create an own way with Daniel. Kreese over Silver any day of the week. I prefer villains with layers and nuances. There really are two many people, S5 was too packed with too many characters while they totaly trash plotted characters who actually matter... they make Johnny Lawlence cleaning the house and all his struggles are suddenly fixed by a redemption baby no one asked for -_- do better! (Billy Zabka still kills portraying him and he is so awesome but please... Justice for Johnny Lawrence.) Yeah, Barnes should have stayed out of it. I hope he won't come back, his plot is wrapped now. Bring back Bobby instead. He deserves to be way more in the show. The season had some good moments but I was so hyped for it and then I was so bummed and the more I think about what could have been done different or better, the more bummed I am.

Man this show doesn't get nearly enough coverage. I feel like I see a new video everyday analyzing every fine grain of detail of a sopranos character or breaking bad character but most of the videos about this show are rare or they are years old. I would love to see deep dives into the complex nature of some of these characters. Also you absolutely should watch Mayans and cover it here. It gets shit on very unfairly in my opinion. I admit it takes a while to get into. The first season is especially rough and has a lot of plot lines you don't care about but once th characters establish themselves it really does pick up and the final season for all it's flaws was very entertaining and suspenseful. People just need to stop comoaring It to sons and take it for what it is and see it as it's own show. It isn't gonna be as good as sons of course it's basically SOAs adopted sibling and the writing can be weak at times but the writing in some ways awful at times too. Neither of th we shows are perfect but they are definitely both compelling.

I love The Sopranos, but it's a strange show because it's structured around anti-climaxes. Season 2 built up Richie Aprile as the main antagonist and you expect a big, violent showdown between him and Tony, but instead Richie randomly gets killed by Tony's sister for something that had nothing to do with the main conflict. In many ways, The Sopranos was the exact opposite of a show like Breaking Bad, where BB was always building towards the big, tense showdowns at the end. The show constantly teases that Tony is going to learn from his actions and change, but he never does. Time after time, he falls into his old bad habits. Both of these traits make the show unpredictable because it doesn't follow the same patterns as most TV dramas, and tends to make the show more realistic in my opinion. In real life, someone like Tony wouldn't change. In real life, someone like Tony would never come up with brilliant and cunning Walter White-esque tactics. He's a simple-minded man driven by emotional anger. I do agree with a lot of your criticisms though. The best way to view the show is that it's like a mixture of a serialized drama and a "story of the week" drama, so not every episode is building towards something.
@reelthought3867
@reelthought3867 Жыл бұрын
I appreciate you taking the time to tell me all that I did not think it was a bad show, but it did not live up to the hype for me. It definitely felt episodic, despite taking a different path from episodic television. The Sopranos is unpredictable in some ways, but to me, simply being unpredictable does not make for good story telling, neither does being realistic. Tony not changing is similar to Jax Teller in Sons of Anarchy, in that you have some glimmer of hope he will change and become a better man, but in his attempt to do so, he only becomes worse. I just didn't like so much screen time being spent on Tony's desire to either change or feel like he's a better person than he really is.

You've probably already seen them, but I highly recommend The Shield and The Leftovers. The Shield was the show Kurt Sutter worked on before Sons of Anarchy, and most people who have watched both shows actually prefer The Shield. SOA even has a lot of cool little references to The Shield in it. The Leftovers was the HBO series Damon Lindelof did after Lost. I thought Zendaya was very good in season 2. But in season 1 she overacted. She has limited range Also Rue was less annoying in season 2 as she does less voice overs. The women tend to be underwritten and are merely to prop up the mail characters. Bate messes with mot one but three of the women. Maddies, Cassie and Jules Also the girls are over s3xualised. The one girl with a major plot in season one was a cam girl, yet there were no consequences to her doing that work. There are KZbin videos of women who've done that work and have become me traumatised. Why is Rue the only character in therapy? Nate interested me as his character had plot development and Jacob elordi acting was brilliant.. Cal was also good. Fez was not too bad I wonder why the men were better developed than the women? Lecis play went on for way too long and she has barely anything to do. Sucha waste of a character Also none of the girls really hang out or have fun that doesn't involve s3x or drugs😢 Two of them Cassie and Maddy are abused over and over again. Its not a bad show just style over substance. Season 1 was a hard watch
