Very interesting to see real old underground trains in Thames Tunnel! Such great quality! Many thanks for the video! Today’s Overground trains are much more boring :(

The East London Line closed in 2007 and since it’s reopening in 2010 has been part of the Overground instead of the Underground. Shoreditch Station no longer exists, but now we have Shoreditch High Street Station.

The sad truth is that the Victoria Line was built on the cheap and 'just good enough' principles of what has been killing Britain for over a century. This film shows the skill and hard work that we had, but everything on the Victoria Line was built down to a cost. Offer skilled men double time to make stuff on the cheap (when Japan was building millimetre perfect railways that still take Bullet Trains). The line was overcrowded within 4 years of opening. It has had a massive upgrade to make it a 90 second interval service at most stations: the stations are so bad at rush hour I'd rather take a bus if I have the time.

I guess i was lucky enough to work on it. Interesting line, Wapping was good. Interesting tunnel there! Worked on it till it closed its doors for good! Still, i think the overground has expanded the network greatly!

Meanwhile, here in Britain, we wage through two world wars, see millions dead and then spend billions in reconstruction and developing a new infrastructure. We also invest thousands of man hours and many years into peace negotiations and trade agreemeents, to become a founding member of a united Europe, without barriers and without confliction. Years later, we elect a self-serving Prime Minister called Cameron, who guides the nation into a referendum called Brexit, where we literally take a century of political upheaval and throw the whole lot back into the face of all those who toiled, fought and died so that Europe might remain united in solidarity. But not to worry. The UK government has since hired the former PM as the Secretay of State, so he can represent the UK in Europe. You couldn't make it up. The GREAT BRITAIN you see in the Look at Life videos made 60+ years ago, is long, long gone....

Living in Kent, these were our "bread and butter" units for many years, along with the 2 haps, until the Veps crept in during the 70s. The unrefurbished units were sooo comfortable but I do remember the water slopping to and fro in the early double glazing. Happy memories...

Can't deny Thames made so many great programmes not just for their own interests but that with their fellow franchise holders across the ITV network and for all viewers. Irony in this considering that ITV is now one company and a shadow of what is was before.

Thames really were superb, the ITV region I spent my whole childhood in - I was 18 when they went off air. I felt the loss of TVS at the same time very keenly too, as they made a lot of shows I really liked. I feel for the people affected by this, they really were shafted by a system that was unfair and a process that wasn't clear. Of course, there's plenty who think Thames' downfall was linked to their "Death On The Rock" documentary - Thatcher was furious when that aired.

That was when the actual switch was thrown at the BT tower to switch the transmitter feed from Thames’ playout facilities on Euston Road to LWT’s playout facilities on the South Bank. Carlton hired their playout facilities from LWT.

Gosh. Look at that, BBC. Our historical infrastructure built by men, yes MEN and not one of them was wearing a frock. Oh, not a "WOW" or a "THAT'S AMAZZZING!" uttered by a "celebrity" narrator. This is how you make documentaries for growth ups, something you've evidently forgotten how to do.

I think the ITV franchise bidding system was cockeyed, it pitted ITV companies against each other in a bad way, when well meaning companies like Thames deserved to win.
