Hello CIRMMT 🖐️ I'm a youtube Marketer. I watched your recent 5-6 video & I'm stunned! What the quality of your videos, just Wow. But no views! 🙁. So I found some problem due to which there is no view🧐. If you have at least 2 min that's enough for me to demonstrate why your not getting views.

Excellent lecture. Clearest explication of this subject I have been able to find. I might only quarrel with the use of the term ‘raga’ as a synonym for mode or scale; however if even Messiaen couldn’t manage to learn what a raga actually is, I perhaps couldn’t reasonably expect every other Western composer to.

Great work, but there is a mistake in the chart of the spectrogram of Hearing out partials of the bell, the first arrow is pointing to a partial that is higher, and so the next ones, that confuses.

Back in the early 80s, armed with the contents of my 1st ever bank loan, I walked into my local hi-fi retailer and 4 hours later, walked out with a hi-fi system. Took it home without a clue what I was doing and set it up in the 16 feet by 13 feet lounge of my bachelor pad. I was in musical heaven, witnessing 1st hand, audio nirvana. As time moved on, my disposable income and living accommodation became larger, I slowly upgraded my hi-fi. Relying only on my auditory system to get best results. I was content with what I’d achieved. Around 20 years later I got hooked by the internet and KZbin Conmunity. Multiple reviewers expressing multiple opposing opinions. Multiple ‘experts’ disagreeing with each other. I became confused and disoriented by all the opposing and conflicting elitists. I’m not an electronics technician, neither am I an acoustician. But I do have a logical brain. My university education did give me a good grounding in the sciences. My forte was physics. I drew my own conclusions as to what was genuine and what was snake oil in the world of hi-fi. I’ve just watched this video, multiple times. Floyd has just, more articulately than I ever could, mirrored my philosophies, derived from personal experience If you are into hi-fi, like me, for the love of music? Then take with a large pinch of salt, or preferably a large aged single malt, every ounce of non factual crap that the internet and KZbin hi-fi community try to sell you. I was content with my hi-fi before I discovered the internet and KZbin hi-fi community. Now that I’ve learned to disregard 99.997% of what I hear, I’m once again content. Thank you for bringing proven realism to a world of bullshitting elitists. Remember, you’ve built your hi-fi system. For your own enjoyment. Don’t let the opinion of others make you question your choices. Thank you Floyd. You are my new bible!

I noticed that no attention was paid to a baby's hearing its parents' voices from inside the womb. I'm curious about to what extent these predispositions to sounds, music, etc. might begin inutero, as opposed to after birth. We have this idea that life begins at birth and that, therefore, it follows that a child's development begins at birth, also. However, we now know that a lot of what is assumed to begin after birth has, in reality, actually begun in the womb. There are parents who have experimented with talking to their baby in the womb, or playing music for them.

As a music lover and an avid listener, I ended up knowing what it is like to be patted on the shoulder and slapped in the face at the same time! Wow! So many of my ideas HAVE been spot on! . . . Yay! And so many have been total trash! . . . OUCH!!! You will notice that the "Ouches" are bigger than the "Yays". Why, you ask? Because I usually and often forget that the brain is not just a "passive" listener, but is also an "active " listener! And not just ANY brain! . . . . Your particular brain!

I spent my wayward youth singing badly and making my brothers laugh in church. They got in trouble, and then I laughed. I never learned to solfège. All my choir teachers told me to move my lips and not make a sound. I did try to take a beginning singing course in University, but the teacher asked me if it wasn't too late to be reimbursed. It was, and she apologized since I had told her I was a beginner. I started plunking around on a keyboard last year after I turned 65, like my Mother had done. I discovered Robert Gjerdingen two weeks ago. I will buy a tourquise tunic and make up for lost time.

Lets me comment/ask something. Around 33:00: DSD as an archive format ("Les Paul Tapes") ok. But may I ask. Where is the merit of DSD in the normal / usual studio recording and mastering process? All needs to be recorded in PCM format as you can not process (mix, master) in DSD format. There happened already those A/D and D/A conversion(s) and you have the ringing that you intend to avoid with DSD. So DSD is for me only a "distribution format", an let me say exact copy of what you got from a PCM based production process. Or maybe in your terminology, an exact reproduction of music material which has already all this ringing and unprecision in the time domain, that you intend to avoid with DSD, right? If this is correctly understood by me, then I do not see any advantage of using DSD for listening to music. 1st of all file sizes are extremely large and all you get is for my understanding a perfect reproduction of music based on PCM based AD and DA conversions. Therefore I see no merit in DSD for normally produced music. DSD as archive format where your music material in analog will be directly converted into DSD .. that may be another story with another setup and requirements. Comments? Otherwise thanks for this very nice summary of evolution and your work. it was an interesting presentation.

After I retired from Harman, the research continued under the guidance of Dr. Sean Olive. He has examined headphones in much the same way we looked at loudspeakers, Search for him, his website and his paper. There is a solution.

Hello Dr Toole and all the other specialists! Some questions appeared to me. First: How is it possible to achieve that 1db-windowed flat response? I don't think that excessive use of crossover parts could do, because you would come near a 80dB speaker, if I'm right. Second: I tried to consider my own hearing curve by making me a CD with the 23 frequencies of my EQ, one tone for each filter. Then I adjusted the tones for equal subjective volume. Next came the listening test with music and it sounded horrible. Why that? What could I do to make it 'just right'? Thanks in advance. The EQ is on my channel, if you're interested.
@fetoole
@fetoole 7 ай бұрын
Hello Wolfgang, very sorry for the much delayed response. Loudspeakers with very small tolerances are achieved by starting with very well-designed transducers that don't require a lot of crossover parts (a.k.a. EQ) to result in a good loudspeaker system. Active loudspeakers are a huge advantage because resonances can be audibly eliminated using digital filters. The reason why your experiment with trying to match your own "hearing curve" failed is that it isn't necessary. Whatever properties one's hearing system has, as represented in equal-loudness contours, one listens through it from birth - to live sounds of all kinds and to reproduced sounds. The task of a loudspeaker is to reproduce as accurately as possible the recorded sounds. Done well, it should have a recognizable resemblance to the live equivalent - you would be using your same hearing system in both instances.
