Lets me comment/ask something. Around 33:00: DSD as an archive format ("Les Paul Tapes") ok. But may I ask. Where is the merit of DSD in the normal / usual studio recording and mastering process? All needs to be recorded in PCM format as you can not process (mix, master) in DSD format. There happened already those A/D and D/A conversion(s) and you have the ringing that you intend to avoid with DSD. So DSD is for me only a "distribution format", an let me say exact copy of what you got from a PCM based production process. Or maybe in your terminology, an exact reproduction of music material which has already all this ringing and unprecision in the time domain, that you intend to avoid with DSD, right? If this is correctly understood by me, then I do not see any advantage of using DSD for listening to music. 1st of all file sizes are extremely large and all you get is for my understanding a perfect reproduction of music based on PCM based AD and DA conversions. Therefore I see no merit in DSD for normally produced music. DSD as archive format where your music material in analog will be directly converted into DSD .. that may be another story with another setup and requirements. Comments? Otherwise thanks for this very nice summary of evolution and your work. it was an interesting presentation.
