Great video! I fly there fairly often. I like to extend my downwind right over the top of the Cross on top of Mt Rubidoux. That helps me have a little more time to slow down on final and has the extra benefit of spotting any other traffic in the pattern. The airport cafe is a hidden gem!

SNA is my local airport but I got my PPL in Arizona so flying wise I am used to arizona and ive been nervous to fly here at home. Ive heard of these "departure routes" and always been scared of the socal airspace compared to the Arizona one but this video made me feel confident. I thought phraseology and the departure was going to be completely different.

I haven't read the other comments, so I may have missed it.... Did you preform a high-altitude departure? I'm a novice pilot, but I think Big Bear calls for a runup while leaning the mixture for altitude.
@Bill4LE
@Bill4LE 2 ай бұрын
It sure does! Density altitude is always critical...it was cold so wasn't much of a factor...and I wasn't much more than 750 agl

Got to fly in and out of Big Bear once and was beautiful! Flew up and skied for the day at Summit. Two of my favorite things on same day!! Have also watched Osprey aircraft fly in and out of Big Bear. They use to practice higher elevation operation. Fun to watch and hear!!

Try taking off from Custer State Park (3V0) airport runway 33 and continue straight out on runway heading. You'll practically run right into Mt. Rushmore! For bonus points, try finding your way back to 3V0 without using any navaids!

The key is prop wash on stabilizer and rudder, remember these are slow planes that use short runways. To take off just go quickly to full power and use slight rudder, it should get the tail up and soon take off. To land use full flaps so you have low speed and keep some power so that again after you land there is some prop wash that keeps the rudder efficient. Again, small rudder corrections will be sufficient and just wait for speed to bleed and full weight is on the wheels; it is better to land just before stalling obviously. This has worked for me in all sims with taildraggers.

Used to live in the hills to the north of Flabob, had a great view. Also back in the day, traffic used the opposite direction and we were right under the approach path. Guys would be coming in so low and banking over the house I could see the pattern of the pilots shirt! Loved it!!

Hey which upgrade IN GAME do I need to make Big Bear look better and the airport as well. I did the three major US upgrades and paid $20 each for them and upgraded my local airports where I’m from like John Wayne airport and LAX and Ontario But when I’m playing the game where it gives you all those options to purchase certain airports to make them more realistic and the landscapes, etc. etc. which option is the one that would upgrade the Big Bear airport and the whole area? I live in Big Bear and I think it would be super cool to see it look even more realistic Thanks ahead of time for the response PS. Where I can type in the search bar for what I’m looking for the only thing that comes up under Big Bear is some sort of desert program. I’m literally literally just looking to upgrade the airport and the town I tried typing San Bernardino. I tried typing in Big Bear Lake and Big Bear city and nothing comes up.

Hey Bill! Great video. From what I can find, Departure procedures off 24 advise turning left 10 degrees and switching over to Riverside tower…any issues requesting the transition being so close to their Delta on a straight out? I suppose if the radio traffic was busy one could always depart on the downwind and circle back to request the transition, but curious as to your experience at this airport. Thanks for the great content!! See ya!!!

great airplane i have a 77 177b love her i like it better than my 182 i had, easier to get into just got thru installing s some radios and a new 230 hp engine in her. with the new enginei can keepup with the 182 where is your front wheel pant. looks terrible without it. i have the long range. i just got back with her from wisconsin i am in washington state. i even have a/c well a ice cooler in her works great. also put on some vortexes i also have a stinson reliant. lol stuff in the 230 ho, you will be happier i wont sell mine. i have had mine for 11 years. new custom paint last year and new leather interior. new engine since the garmin 530 is not supported anylonger, had to get a new radio,
