What about stress fracture on L5? Should one take complete rest? Very interesting videos! Thank you!
@TheBalletBlog-LisaHowell23 күн бұрын
Hi Marvie! Thanks for your support! For an L5 Stress fracture, you definitely want to be under an experienced therapist who can manage your load appropriately. Stress fractures in the Lumbar spine usually happen from repeated, extreme extension, and often occur if you have a stiff thoracic spine or limited hip extension, so all the load goes into your lower back (but not always!). Often restricting extension is enough, and you may be able to continue with other movements. This is ideal if it’s possible, as you get less wasting of all the other muscles that support the spine. For a full recovery, it is extremely important to retrain the movement patterns that lead to the fracture developing to prevent future issues. I hope this helps!

I have had a massive journey with hyper-mobility syndrome recently, best advice I can give to people suffering with this condition when sitting down and using a computer is to get up and stop. It's ironic I say this over the Internet, but right now I am lying down flat on hard ground holding a laptop up and using voice commands to control my Mac. Some of you may say it's unreasonable or are unable to stop using a computer because they use it for work, to that I would say quit your job and find a new one. No, really, do you want to be in pain for the rest of your life? Because if so you have to re-organise your life around this condition. It can be daunting at first but it's extremely liberating when you take the step. I've always maintained a good gym routine because of the condition, doing the right exercises with the right weights for this type of condition. But I had office jobs, hospitality jobs, I would suppress the urge to stretch when deemed inappropriate, I would mask urges and follow what everyone else was doing in a public space ignoring my body. I would use my phone on public transport, Drive to places (my car is not designed for hypermobility at all) and I would regularly have to take take painkillers, it became a normal part of my life to integrate painkillers when I knew I had plane ride or something I knew which was gonna cause pain. I was taking high strength codeine because my tolerance was high. At 27 I was suffering from Side effects no 27-year-old should have to go through, and I decided to completely stop painkillers. But this meant I had to stop the pain in a different way, at source and through prevention. I would tell people I can't Drive if I was expected to drive, I barely use my phone or a computer anymore, and if I do as soon as I notice the pain creeping up and tightness building I stop immediately and do something else. I have missed social events because I didn't get my gym session in early enough and I prioritised that instead, and most bitterly I greatly curbed activity in one of my greatest joys in this life which is playing the guitar. I used to be able to sit for hours writing songs and messing around on that thing, now I will get to 30 minutes maximum and stop. I stretch in public, I will sit on the floor in public spaces, I'll sometimes not even wear shoes if my feet/knees aren't feeling okay. In job interviews or bank meetings et cetera and they say "please take a seat" I always explain that I have a health condition and will most likely be standing for the duration of it, I'll even whack out an occasional tree pose, why give a fuck if it all helps your health. The anxiety I had around taking these sort of steps, being worried about what people may think or say, lead me to tears at one point. But that was then, and I haven't looked back since, I feel so good and pain-free that it's all worthwhile. Most positively, it made me focus even more on the gym and nutrition, before I suffered from this condition I used to struggle with motivation, but now knowing my actions will have direct consequences on my pain levels it's so great a very easy choice to avoid alcohol avoid junk food go to the gym on days where I'm really not feeling it If you're suffering from this condition, I recommend you to Take control of your life, you know what's hurting you, you know what helps you, our body is a great communicator to us and people with this condition are blessed because all the things that are damaging everybody else are a lot more pronounced to us, it's just that hypermobile people are more aware of it!

This vídeo is incredible, not only it explains super well the position in which we need to put the tape, but it immediately released so much pressure on my serratus muscle that the pain I had became bearable. I was able to do some exercices on the gym, and I felt it was super helpful to know if my shoulder was in the correct position during the exercise. Thank you SO MUCH!

I feel like the tape does nothing, it's far to slight a pressure to make a difference. Do you have any suggestions? I've had bunions my whole life. I had surgery to straighten them, but they are getting worse again.
@TheBalletBlog-LisaHowell7 ай бұрын
Hi Mary, It can sometimes take some practice to find the right tension on the tape. You can try to increase the tension to feel the pressure. As mentioned in this video, this taping technique will only help if you can manually reposition your first metatarsal yourself. If there have already been bony changes this will not work. If you have had surgery and your bunions are still getting worse, the issue is usually found further up the chain. If this is the case, it would be more appropriate to focus on a hip conditioning and/or gait retraining program. I hope this helps!

Hi Futoon, The girl in this video did indeed have a bunion - although it was quite an early stage!Her grandmother and mother both had them so it is best to get in early in order to prevent bunions. This is much better than waiting until bunions develop extensively. This taping technique is very helpful for this purpose. I hope this helps!
