You are justified in your pride in your color work sweater. Very nice. You’ve come a long way in your knitting from that first sweater!

I felt the same way about tress! Especially the first few lines in the book! It was so lyrical and beautiful. Unfortunately I also felt the same about bride 🥲 while reading it I was like “wow I’m obsessed” and then after I finished, especially after the “knotting” experience I was… quite put off and realized I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I did 😂 Dance of thieves is one of my favorite books though so I’m excited to hear your thoughts next time!

I've never had an issue bringing knitting on a plane in the US!! I can also rip most fingering weight yarn without a scissor if you're worried about that...but a scissor with a tiny blade is specifically TSA approved. You will be ok!! If you can choose your seat, sitting around the wings is usually less bumpy in my experience :)

I always love your bookish sections at the end of the video; and definitely with you on bride being more romance that leans into fantasy. I think I even heard the author say on a podcast once that all her world building / decisions about fantasy where guided by what would serve the romance most, so probably a different approach from the full on fantasy books. Curious to hear what you think about your next books and hoping you’ll get to enjoy your work trip ☺️

It’s so funny to hear about your thoughts on flying!!! Because you were once my virtual fly buddy LOL. Meeeeaning I binge watched your episodes throughout the Denver airport for like a 4 hour layover once. We walked many terminals, ate chipotle and chilled in multiple gates. So here are some good flying vibes ✨✨✨ and my suggestion is def have some knitting and some podcasts for distraction :)

My husband loves Brando Sando so I read Tress and Yumi and the Nightmare Painter. Then I jumped into the Stormlight Archive - just finished Way of Kings yesterday, it is CHUNKY and slow moving for the first 3/4 but worth all the setup. I really recommend Yumi and the Nightmare Painter too, I liked that one even better than Tress.

knitting needles are specifically TSA approved 🥰 but as a frequent knitting flyer, here's another tip: TSA is more strict with scissors but you can bring either nail clippers or a small dental floss to snip your yarn with the blade! i also recommend casting on beforehand so you don't have fiddle around with is and just enjoy the knitting ☺️ but thanks for the reminder, i'm also headed to a work trip next week and didnt even think to look up local yarn stores!!

How brave to be taking a flight even though it is scary! It's not exactly the same, but maybe my experience can help you. I have generalized anxiety, and when I am struggling with it I talk to myself in my head and say something like "These are anxious thoughts, they are not mine and they are not in charge of how I feel." Then I try to think of a replacement thought and say it in my head ~*~with conviction~*~. It might sound silly, but if I can draw a line between myself and the anxious thoughts and acknowledge that I do not have to agree with what the anxiety is trying to convince me, it helps me to take more control of how I am thinking and feeling. It gets easier with practice too! Also everyone says this but for me it really is true, taking nice slow deliberate breaths - big ones that make your belly go out- really helps me a lot. Sending you love! You GOT THIS!

Huge congrats on your first work trip! You’re allowed to bring small scissors and knitting needles on the plane. Plane knitting is honestly my favorite knitting time so I hope you can enjoy it! I recommend something simple that you don’t have to think a lot about and that doesn’t need too many accessories (stitch markers or cable needles)- I’ve lot quite a few stitch markers on planes!

Needles should be no problem in the US, and scissors up to 3in blades are allowed as well! You’re gonna do great! Knitting will help keep you calm through any anxiety ❤️

I used to say I would never knit socks on magic loop! Then, one day, my hands started cramping with my 9-inch and I retried magic loop. It's been 3 years since I made the switch and I'm never going back! Also, I'm from Chicago! If you have access to a car, I highly recommend Wool and Company. It's about 40 minutes from O'Hare. If you are able to go, I would also suggest a little trip to Harvey's Tales which is about 15 minutes away from the shop. It's a super cute book store! 😊

You can take anything knitting on the plane - TSA approved! (Knitting, tiny scissors, yarn, keys, etc). I would not take your most valuable tools though.. specifically needles and scissors, just in case.

Girl- I went into Joann’s for a zipper and came out with $75 worth of yarn- Eddie Bauer on sale and I bought the same coral and blue cotton as you. The wool-paca yarn was on sale too so I got 4 skeins in the almond color - great buy as it is 50% wool and 50% alpaca. The Patons classic wool was on clearance so I grabbed some of that too. Then a few days later the email came about Patons sale - my Joann didn’t have the linen so I really wanted to try it - bought the same sweet potato color, and of course more classic wool- $100 later my cart was full lol 😂

You live in a region that has extremely long warm weather seasons, so you are completely justified in buying all of the cotton yarn! 😂 That Patons linen looks very interesting. I've never heard of it, so I'm interested in hearing what you think of it after using it.

Love the video. I learned to knit when I was 42. We had just moved to a farm an hour away from my family. It has been a lifesaver. So excited to see young girls knitting. I'm 63 now and still knit every day...mostly shortie socks. Hope you have a great summer!

If you want a sock pattern that has garter, you could do the Rye Socks by Tin Can Knits (I believe it’s a free pattern). Sophie scarf is always a good one too if you like an ascot. Welcome to the daycare illness train 😢, we had to switch Elliot’s day care in the middle of winter and it was pure suffering 😂

The one that I want crop pattern by Lily Kate makes is a project I’m using with 2 fingering weight skeins held together which is allowing me to get my size out of 2 sock yarns I only have a single skien of each (I’m marling a light blue and a blue speckled white). It’s garter stitch and really simple so pretty close to what you were hoping for with a fingering weight simple garter stitch pattern as long as you have another preferably summery fingering weight yarn to hold double with your original skien.

I found your channel today. I watched your first video about making baby things. It was refreshing to hear you say you were "with child". So I had to skip ahead to see your best make, your new son, but scrolling through I did not see him. You have so many beautiful knits from the somewhat basic design of the baby teddy bear sweater to your husband's fish sweater. I look forward to watching all t g e videos. I will probably make some of the head scarves. That style was popular when I was a child in the 1960's. My mother sewed many. The edges were covered with bias tape which ended as the strings to tie.

Yay! So good to see you again! I loved Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow- it made me sob! It’s so funny that we’re opposites on audio book. I do so much better with them because I can go on walks and really feel what’s happening while I’m walking or knitting versus I really struggle to picture the story while I’m reading. The way different brains work is so cool!

Ok, this may not be your genre but the audiobook of Hannah Coulter by Wendell Berry is wonderful. She has a nice southern voice and you can feel the story. I’m like you when it come to a book in my hands as a preference. But this one I would listen to again and again.
