Their music helped us shape our lives and they’ve left us with their gift of great southern rock and blues ! RIP ABB

I've been an Allman Brothers Band fan since I was in my teens. I truly love them. They sent me down that Blues rabbit hole. I ended up seeing them in concert over a dozen times between 1980 and 2000. I absolutely connected with Gregg's voice on an emotional, heart and soul level. When most musicians pass on, I give it some thought and realize I'm getting older too. However, when Gregg passed away, it hit me like a ton of bricks.

We all talk about Duane’s death and the void he left but we also have to remember Berry Oakley. The music lives on and ABB continues its influence 50+ years later. I’m sure every band below the Mason Dixon line thinks about the ABB and how their influence remains alive even now. Rest well my brothers.

Eric Clapton was a big admirer of Gregg and the fellas, especially Duane. Derek and the Dominos (Duane and Eric, Derek). Duane came up with and played the second guitar part on Layla. Slide obviously.

Hey Josh. I knew him also. Yeah, he was a cool guy. And as you know, he was a really nice guy who definitely had his quite side. The last time I saw Gregg a great guitarist who is a friend of mine called me to say that the brothers were going to come jam with him at a small local club in Atlanta. I dug out my old vinyl of Fillmore East and Brothers and Sisters and took them with me. I saw Gregg sitting in the back of the room with a lady sitting next to him. When I walked over there he looked up and said one of his usual greetings, " How you doing man ". We talked for several minutes and I could tell something wasn't quite right. I asked him if he was ok, he said he had a headache and couldn't get rid of it. I said maybe you should just go to the hotel and get some rest and sleep. He saw the albums under my arm and I said " Gregg, I'm almost embarrassed to ask you if you would sign these for me ". He grabbed them both and signed them. On Fillmore, he signed across the photo of him. I still have those treasures, of course. I sure miss him. What a gift he was to music and all of us. God Bless.

Rick Hall : a truly amazing man! With a childhood beyond poverty and drama stricken; everything was stacked against this guy. But he emerged from this pile of shit to become one of the greatest music producers that ever lived. R.E.S.P.E.C.T! Watch this documentary, even if you don't like the music of that era (which would make you a robot), the story itself will inspire you.

Saw an interview with Gregg recently and he's talking about putting a new band together. Wants to add brass. Have a hunch that after seeing what Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi are doing with brass in their group it sounds like a great idea. He also looks great these days; lost a lot of weight. There was a concert on where all these other artists came on and sang different songs written by Gregg, and he was out there with the 'old gang' himself for a few numbers. Looked like a new man and sounded like the Gregg Allman of yore. They've been in my Top 5 bands since they came out in 1969 and will always be close to my heart. Stuff happens over 45 years but their music is like evergreens; never getting old or passe'. One of the very best ever.
