I was wondering when someone will notice that😂 I honestly made a mistake, only after the roof frame was done I realized that there would not be enough clearance for the insulation board. Since I posted the video I did actually add a piece of insulation board on the inside of the ceiling. Should have made the roof frame a inch thicker!

Wat van n review op daai Laguna tablesaw?
@marcelgenis5 күн бұрын
I’ve got a few upgrades planned for the Laguna! Will make a video about it, not a typical review video, but more of a upgrade video. All in all, still a great tablesaw!

I really like the look of the dresser, for example the detail with the reveal on the base! What I don't get though is the "inconsistency" of the built. For example the pocket screws on the vertical divider instead of a sliding in joint and also the just screwed together drawers and visible drawer slides. But some nice ideas I must say. Gets me thinking of bulding a new dresser and getting rid of ikea stuff... :D
@marcelgenis14 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching and for the comment!This build was basically afterthought, didn’t plan on building it, I only planned on building a crib and then I realized I can maybe make something to compliment the crib with the materials I already had. In a ideal world with a limitless budget I would have loved to build a dresser made completely out of oak with hidden drawer slides and maybe dove tail joint drawers (pocket holes was just lazyness!😂you got me!) Hopefully in the future! But thanks for watching I really appreciate it
@LeoWal0114 күн бұрын
Thank you for your video. Like the bevelled front and the looks of the dresser overall. Only one question: why build it so heavily constructed? Such a thick top and bottom, so many dominoes... Designed it to be earthquake proof? 😊 Not to mention your back will hurt when lifting it... 😨
@marcelgenis13 күн бұрын
Thank you, really appreciate the compliment! To be honest, that thing is super heavy!😂 The main reason was due to the quality of the boards I used, they were made up with sub par joints and a little bit warped. I thought of ripping all of the joints and gluing them back together but that would have left me with too little material to work with. So I kept them thicker with the hope that the joints will not fail and yes I went overboard with the dominos on that one board, that was more to pull the board into alignment instead of making it indestructible😂
@marcelgenis13 күн бұрын
But yeah, I would have made the dresser completely different if I started with rough lumber!

Just found your channel from your modern dresser build video and wow am I a fan. I am starting as a beginner in woodworking and your build are amazing to watch. Love this dog house as I also have two dogs, but a bit bigger. One alaskan malamute and one husky labrador mix. Watching from Canada and now a subscriber that can't wait to see and learn from your next build!

Welcome aboard! Thank you, I am glad you like the builds! I've got a few woodworking projects planned before the end of this year. One of which is a new desk, that I am quite excited about. So watch out for that one!

You can *dramatically* reduce the drying/curing time of each paint layer by making a DIY dehydrator enclosure with a few cheap things you can pick up from a local store. Get a plastic tote that's big enough to comfortably house the radiator, and a small heating element you'd use for warming a single room, and if you're worried about dust, some air filters. Cut a hole big enough for the heating element to blow air into the tote, and make sure to put a couple of exhaust holes on the other side. Run it at the lowest possible setting, and you can have a paint coat cured in only a couple of hours.

@marcelgenis2 ай бұрын
The total cost was just under $400. That being said I live in South Africa and I just converted it from Rand to Dollar. All of the wood I used is from here and very cheap. So it not completely accurate for anyone outside of South Africa.

I have 2 tiny springs under each knife that push it up so you don't need a pick. It's a General International 6" from the early 2000s.
@marcelgenis4 ай бұрын
Yes this cutter head also came with those little springs. But like I mentioned in the video I intentionally didn't use them. I don't know about you but those springs in my case, not only press against the knife but against the gib as well, making it sometimes more difficult to fine tune the knife. So I always just leave them out. Now on the other hand the cutter heads that come with adjustments screws, those are a breeze to work with!

It's better if you make your own wood ruler. Scrap piece of 3/4" x 1 1/4"" x 10". Draw a few 1/8" lines on it. Do not use your steel ruler on the knives. You are dulling the edge. 1/8" of drag works on every jointer I've ever tried. The ruler method is faster and less frustrating than using a dial indicator.
@marcelgenis4 ай бұрын
You are absolutely correct, thanks for mentioning it, I should have added it in the video! I always used my little ruler, haven't noticed any dulling of the blade before, but still I do agree it can dull it
