We had a 2000 dakota RT and a 2000 quad dakota 4x4 with 4.7. The 4.7 Dakota would eat the RT alive at every point. I always assumed it was because of the 4.7 transmission having more speeds and the axle being 3.55

Intake lift vs exhaust lift. What is the reason for being equal? What is the reason for intake lift being slightly higher? I watched your cam vids and I believe that is only one thing I dont understand and I don't think it was addressed. Thank You for the knowledge

G'day vintage, thank you so much for all your hard efforts, doing and thoroughly explaining your work, really appreciate. I have a 454 block( casting number 361959),it's a virgin block.i wanted your thoughts and recommendations of what I will need to get around 500 - 600 hp. I want to go 496 c.i..this will be going in my 1965 chevy caprice. I think I will have to import it to Australia, getting parts here are waaay to dear,it's cheaper to get it from over there and ship it,wanted your recommendations from crank, bearings, pistons rings, manifold, heads, cam, timing gears/chain,lifters,rockers,springs,carby etc, pretty much everything to complete a 496 please.thanks

My Kia Soul was stolen over the weekend. It was essentially taken out for a joyride. Cameras showed the thieves doing donuts and other things in the parking lot of a big box store and then left on until it died. Upon retrieval we repaired the steering column just to be able to turn it on. Nine month old battery was dead and could not be charged. Thankfully it was warrantied and was replaced free of charge. Once the car was on, both the oil and engine sensors went off. No oil in the car. Drove it to a mechanic. Four engine sensors displayed. One of them was the camshaft. What could they have done to do this damage?

I liked the 350 "Fireball" V-8 they used from 1968 to 1980; it was the third iteration of the original 300 V-8 (essentially the 225 V-6 with two more cylinders, as it had that engine's 3.75" bore and 3.4" stroke) that came out in 1964 to replace the aluminum 215 V-8 which, in turn, whose design and tooling was sold to the English automaker Rover.

Back when we had 4 Major Motor Companies...GM, Chrysler, Ford and AMC! All 4 companies produced some awesome engines! Even their Economy Inline 6 cylinders were quite good. Sometime in the mid 1960s, Ford upgraded their 240 cu I6 base engine with a 2 bbl carb; increasing the BHP to 150.

These engines were designed to run on low oil pressure. Around 30lbs cold 25lbs warm. I’m an old codger and run them ever since the seventies. The way to make them last is , if they have been sitting around , remove the coil wire, turn the engine over with the starter until you have oil pressure ,then start and let them warm up. I hope all have a happy and healthy day. Cheers!!

I wish someone made a video on the GM strait 4 cylinder. I dont think the gm 4 cylinder in my hyster forklif is one of the 4 cylibder Gm made out of the gm 8 cylinder 283. By cutting it in half as i seen a number of Forums i have read. My head an spark plug holes are not slanted. There strait up an down. I be beleave i have a timeing problem. I have yet to take it a part i had to order a balancer puller. I asked on amazon were to find parts timeing chain an gears. An crank seal and cover gasget. One guy answered saying there 2 gears one on the crank an one on the cam. No chain at all. He could be right as every time i look an the timeing cover i ask my self, how it it posible to fit 2 timing gears an a chain under this very small an short timeing cover. Then i ask my self. If this guy is right an only has 2 gears no chain. How is it even posible that it could jump?. Then i thought. Well maybe they are plastic. They stripped, broken teeth? But the distributor roter turns steady no miss or stop points.. i had a hell of a time just to find a distrubutor cap, coil, and rotor. No parts dealer has a listing for a gm 4 cylinder. I called the gm dealer an was told they dont suport the gm 4 cylinder. The only way i was able to get these parts. Fat guy auto asked me for a number in side the cap. I gave it to him an he found what i needed. But no one can find listing for timeing gears / chain, crank seal and cover gasket.. i find it hard to be leave that a timeing gear jumped on a engeine with just over 4000 hours on the hour meter. I at a loss an nothing on you tube. I was thinking i do one it i can locat the parts. I done many on gm 350 an ford 351. Freind of mine told me it looks like gm iron horse. But no listings all listind start at 6 cylinder on 7 parts shops.

I am coming late to this great video. Talking with a builder. He totally agrees but chooses a higher lift so the max lift the max flow are the cam passes through twice. On the way up and way down. Not just lifting to that point. Thoughts?

So overall the main point of “timing” a cam is really just to verify the Cam specs? I want to venture into my first engine build soon and trying to understand all the little details. This step seems to be just a verification step only? Like if the Cam was out of time, but also was the correct Cam, how the heck do you adjust / re-time the Cam to make it correct? Or you don’t? If the Cam isn’t in spec, you stop here and get a new in spec cam? I guess to me I’m confusing “timing” a Cam with timing an engine on like the ignition advancement or delay of spark. Like when you tune you can add a degree of timing so maybe I’m just confusing myself with the word “timing” here and it’s really “verifying Cam specs” not timing it?

Great video and just to clarify when the strobe is at zero at idle you’re showing 10 degrees old school style but in advanced mode your setting 30 to reach 0. As so far I’ve only messed with a non advanced light but just got one with it. Question is are you plugging the distributor vacuum advance or leaving it connected? As I hope to mess with the advance style setting hopefully tomorrow and taking notes. Thank you

Followed your advice, put the vacuum advance towards cylinder 6, the rotor towards cylinder 1, and it fired up the first time. Been messing with this issue for several days, till I found your video. I'm running a 1994 sbc 350, set up as if it were a 1968 sbc 350 because that's what the distributor is.

I have a 502 in my boat been a great motor and oil cooler line goes to my heat exchanger from lake water to cool the oil and it cools super good and in a boat you have to pull heads for raw water cooling the head gadgets will rust out the second season so I put A set of Fel-Pro sever duty marine head gaskets and they have been on here for 20+ years and I have Edelbrock aluminum marine heads bronze guides stainless intake and inconclusive exhaust valves and rpm perfourm alum intake aluminum cast exhaust manifolds that are water cooled and stainless risers straight out the back of boat and a 850 C&S Specialties they build custom Holley carbs which is the best carb I have ever owned not cheap and they build custom fuel injection and they are in St Charles Missouri but this rig is 20+ years old and the motor has never been out of boat I just send the carb in for rebuild and up graded the one piece main seals have never leaked and rocker covers are made to fit for the Black Thunder aluminum water cooled exhaust manifolds and they are cast aluminum mirror polish machined for Orin seals and have never leaked or replaced and yes it’s a full roller motor with Howard’s cam Crane gold roller rockers and turn 6000 rpm’s all day long and I bought this crate motor new from GM for 3600 bucks and I would hate to see them now. Iam wanting a 632 bbc carb motor and out of the box at 1000 hp now that’s sweet .

Dear sir, or moron: My 1962 pontiac Catalina had a 421 cu. in. Super-Duty V8 rated at 370 horsepower - deliberately underrated for insurance considerations. It had a 12-to-1 compression ratio, forged crank and connecting rods, solid lifters and a windage tray. It dyno's at 465 HP. The police and NASCAR version of the 421 had a single gigantic 4-barrel, 13-to-1 compression and a 7,000 rpm red line. The Nassau County Police Department's 421 was a two-door coupe in unmarked navy blue, a fat, strut supported roll bar and two officers who wore helmets - courtesy of the motorcycle troop. As a former cop, I can tell you, this car, patrolling the long island Expressway saw speeds of over 150 mph in 1962, and could not be beat in the 1/4 mile by anything but a full-race Plymouth Belvedere with a Hemi, Bellanger fender-mounted open headers and an A727. 389 GTO's? Give me a beak - I used to eat them with my 440 cu. in. mopar sedan.
