Why is it so hard for people to just list free camping spots? I feel like I'm losing my mind
@ruggedoutdoorsguide99043 күн бұрын
Agreed! It's the same as how one angler might post his best fishing spot on the internet and all other anglers who use the lake will get upset because they want the best fishing spots to be secret so it stays the best fishing spot. Also like a magician revealing his secrets is often hated by his fellow magicians. Lots of campers want their beautiful, free camping spots only for themselves. It kind of makes sense (who wants to arrive at their camping spot only to see it taken by someone else who found it on the internet?), but it's also selfish. That's a tough one!

Good video. I've been reading about "Tractor Supply Pine Pellets." Can't find a video where someone really says how to use them. Assume like the "forest duff" in this video. Cover up you poo with the stuff, suposedly smells like pine, and you're gtg for a few days.. I guess I'll have to buy one of these and experiment. Amazon has like 100+ "solutions" to this issue. Mind boggling!

Good stuff. I found that when I add a little kerosene or lamp oil to the melted wax, you get an easier to light, hotter burning disk. It doesn't compromise the disk at all. (If it does, you added too much) The multi-pad experiment was impressive. (DIY is just more satisfying)

Just got same one, I’m 6’3” about 220lbs and it’s fine for me. Leg room is perfect any less would be an issue though. I’ve noticed it is a bit tippy, probably my height but I can literally pick this up and put it in my dodge caravan and close the trunk, not many kayaks can do that

You might want to try laying your disks out on parchment paper or even freezer paper, waxed side up. Even if the disk sticks to either one, it will just burn up with the rest of your firestarter.

Keep in mind that while there is expert use of kayak paddles in canoes, a lot of people gravitate to them because they can't paddle effectively onside. That's a good enough reason, but I like to have a variety of paddles and techniques. Just me. Find oneself out in a big lake when a storm comes in. A single blade is tough because the glide faze is me going in reverse. Going downwind with a double and both blades in line. I'm sailing.
@HondoTrailsideАй бұрын
Goes without saying that kayak paddles are fine for use in Canoes. Just be aware that the design arose for boats about 24-28" in beam, and long. And the idea was a relatively high cadence, with little time to glide. This can put a lot of pressure on tendons when pushing around a regular or worse, a tubby canoe. Would the the wise and enjoy. A 24 inch beam 16 foot kayak has not hull speed limitation/ability to plane, unless you attach an engine. This is what accounts for high speed, low resistance, in many boats, like catamars, as well as 1-8 kayaks. Of course many kayaks are tubs today, so the are going be just as likely to be hard on your joints as canoes.

I have a question about figuring the overall length. Is this done based on the length of the straight ahaft prior to bending? For example, if i need a 54" paddle do I make that measurement off the straight shaft? This is the only part of building one that confuses me.
@ruggedoutdoorsguide9904Ай бұрын
you might not like my answer but it's an honest one! I throw out all length measurements and go with how it "feels". I took one of my straight shaft paddles that was a perfect length for me and my canoe, and then pretended it was bent shaft. I had to sit in my canoe because each canoe with a seat height from the gunwales that's different than the next canoe requires a different paddle length. I just chose a length I was comfortable with after mimicking my paddling style in my pool. I'm not sure that helps, but it's all I've got! Thanks for watching!

Mix 1:1 parifin wax and charcoal lighter fluid together. Put your makeup cotton pads into the wax/lighter fluid and after a quick soak lay them flat on aluminum foil so they don’t stick after drying. When lighting tear it in half and light it.

Aside from some weight savings I don't see why anyone would get this monstrosity over the Haven Hammock Tent. Haven obviously didn't invent the bridge hammock but they improved the original bridge design idea so that it becomes applicable for ordinary people. Great video btw
@ruggedoutdoorsguide9904Ай бұрын
Hey Roman; Thanks for the comment. A couple of observations: The price of the Haven is similar to the Helsdon so no big difference on that front. Aside from that, the Helsdon has more storage space and has a 360 degree bug net that automatically deploys when you zip yourself in for the night. Also, because of the Helsdon's design, it sets up in under 60 seconds (and that's not trying to do it in a hurry - it's just that easy working at a normal pace). No need for rain fly setup - it's built in. No need for storage outside or under the canoe - it's built right in. No need for a bug net - it's built right in. That's why this tent (IMO) beats the Haven easily. However, we all have our own takes on things so I live and let live!
@Roman-nu1omАй бұрын
@@ruggedoutdoorsguide9904The Haven has an integrated bugnet and the rainfly can stay permanently attached. I'm currently testing it in heavy rain with 90% humidity yet no condensation issues so far. On the Helsdon it looks like as if you're basically laying in a straight rift whereas the Haven gives me a nearly perfectly even sleeping surface due to the semi integrated sleeping pad.

When l did the newspaper strips years ago l lightly crushed up the newspaper first then cut it into strips and put scotch tape to hold it closed then tied it with twine. I then held the end of the twine and dipped it into the wax a couple of times. It burns well enough to start sbout any kind of fire. I think it is a little less messy.

I just looked up the fire starters you showed from Lowe’s. You sure got a deal! Maybe they were mismarked 😳. I just checked. Lowes and Home Depot didn’t list them. Walmart’s price is $37.00 for the 48 count brick. Inflation is really bad down here in the States 🤪, but that’s a crazy amount. Good for you and thanks for the video. If anyone find those firestarter for less than 10 bucks please reply to my comment. Have a great day!

I have been dehydrating so far. I have not been aware that dehydrating diminishes the nutritional value of the food you dehydrate. Would you know how much is being lost? I am surprised that in your rural area, there are 50 people with the freeze dryer who are ready to rent theirs. That being the case I do not think that it is very likely that someone would make money from it as there is too much competition.

Technically yes. However, I do know that if you get caught by Conservation officers in the park (they'll have a little car topper aluminum boat and motor), they'll allow you to pay for one on the spot with their satellite credit card processor.

Some details that might interest you! 1. When trying to center the canoe on your car, the foam canoe blocks can sometimes roll right off the gunnels if you push from the canoe from the side side while it is on your car roof. Ouch! Pool noodles work better than the foam canoe blocks! I use 4 four-foot pool noodles for my 17-foot canoe - two on either side. Cut a slice right down the center from end to end and push them onto the gunnels. They are stiff, thick, inexpensive, easy to install, and easy to find. Also, since I'll have up to 8 feet of pool noodle on each gunnel, you have little chance of scratching your car. If you can't find pool noodles, you can also pick up pipe insulation from the hardware store. They will work the same and are already split down the center. 2. If you don't already have a roof rack, don't bother getting one for your canoe! It's easier without it. Most are screwed into the sheet metal of your car's roof. If you put too much stress on them with straps, they can pull right off! Most roof racks are made of hard plastic and will break! Driving down the highway at 60 miles an hour with a canoe will create a lot of stress on the rack anchor points. They really are not designed to carry a canoe. The above method is more strong and secure, and provide more surface contact between your car and canoe. Plus, you don't have to buy a roof rack! 3. Rather than using a center strap that goes through the back door frames, through the inside cabin and across the top of the canoe, try this instead. Get another set of hood attachments that he used for the engine compartment. Open the back doors, place one on either side of the back door frame, and close the door on the strap. Then use the straps as anchor points for a strap across the top of the canoe. Just don't open the back doors until you are ready to unstrap the canoe. The straps are easy to make and will cost less as a DIY. 4. Just shaking your canoe once it's on the roof to see if it moves is not a good test of how well it will preform under the stress of the wind at 60 miles an hour. Be aware that the straps on the front will pull the canoe forward toward the front. The anchor points that attach to the back need to pull the canoe back in the opposite direction. As an illustration, imagine you are driving down the highway with your canoe strapped on the roof. The car in front of you stops suddenly and your canoe goes flying into his rear window. Make sure that the rear straps are situated so that the canoe will not drift forward from a sudden stop. Happy canoeing!
