Crazy and off topic question, but if Disney made The Sound of Music (1965) instead of 20th Century Fox as a live action animated musical fantasy comedy drama film with original live action cast playing live action characters mixed with animated talking animals being sidekicks with Maria befriending the Von Trapp Kids when meeting and playing games, telling jokes, funny movements, and having fun wherever they go including a beautiful kingdom that also has animated talking animals, talking mythical creatures like mermaids (like Ariel) and dragons (like The Reluctant Dragon and Elliott from Pete’s Dragon), animated people in royalty like kings, queens, princes, princesses, animated dwarves/munchkins/elves (like the 7 Dwarves), animated regular humans which are non-dwarves, non-munchkins, and non-elves, and animated fairies (like Flora, Fauna, Merryweather, and Fairy Godmother) who would be friends and help the nuns pray and be the sidekicks of Maria helping her achieve her goals and dreams and take care on the Von Trapp Family and her group of animated talking animal friend sidekicks, with more songs written by Sherman Brothers in level likes Rodgers and Hammerstein fusing with their own twist, music, dancing, and romance, and symphonic band and orchestra and choir ensemble performs, and the Nazis that try to kill the Von Trapp family including their talking animal friends and the fairies and nuns, what if there is this twist where the Von Trapp family in alliance with the talking animals and fairies were to defeat the Nazis, they escaped from live action dimension to the golden door where everything is animated, and back where the castle occurred earlier in the animated sequences, this time back to 100% completely animated, with the Nazis becoming animated versions of themselves, with help of the people of the kingdom, soldiers, guards, their talking goofy dragon friend trying to protect his friends who are the Von Trapp family including their talking animal friends from the Nazis and then in the next scene, everything the Nazis try to do, ultimately, in a dramatic but humorous manner, the Nazis got backfired with canon balls, bows and arrows, leading to slapstick comedy and humor of the Nazis bumping into each other including Rolfe and ended up in a river surrounded by animated crocodiles and alligators ready to devour them, afraid, they frantically panicked and ran for their lives and dropped their guns and the crocs and gators steal the guns Nazis originally owned, and the Nazis were running and Jumping up and down with the crocs and gators shooting the Nazis with guns of their mouth which they initially stole, humorously, one of the Nazis who ran and jump got his military clothes destroyed and stripped off leading him to be wearing no other than his white underwear by the name of Rolfe thanks to the crocs and gators who had guns in their mouth in which they stole from the Nazis and their fate ended up being killed and chased by the crocs and gators just like whatever happened to Captain Hook from Disney’s Peter Pan (1953) and then the next scene, the Von Trapp family and talking animal friends have been saved, then in the next scene, they went back to live action dimension and the animated talking animals and Von Trapp family moved to Switzerland and lived happily ever after as the ending?

I’ve seen this movie 10 times. And yet it took me a while after a few times to get the gist of the nuns cleverness.

My jaded older self sees this scene and wonders if the nuns hadn't purchased Maria's freedom at the cost of their own lives. Probably wouldn't be long before the Nazis figured out what happened.

This movie could be even darker... The nazis will know that the nuns obviously opened the gates to let the family hide. And sabotaged their car. They could be executed for something like that... And the nazis have executed nuns in real life.

I've known a lot of nuns in my life - really good ones. I know some in the Bronx who would've slashed the tires too, no problem...and I mean that as a compliment.

We watched this movie in class when I was in 8th grade (back in 2004-2005), I still remember everyone in class laughing at this scene.

The complete opposite of sinning! Satan was at work in those Nazi's, and they foiled it to help the innocent escape to freedom!! God would reward that!!

I’m impressed that the cloistered sisters knew what parts to remove to make the cars not start! Perhaps they’d been tomboys who had spent hours in the garage with their dads. At any rate, it reinforces by example something I, as an educator, am always reminding my students of: No knowledge you can acquire is ever useless.

That only a fictional account of what could have gone wrong sometimes during world war II may have frightened a whole lot of men who already had lots of worries at the time during the cold war about who all might have the chance to steal their keys to the car and then get them copied at some hardware store open late at night during the Christmas season. Would sure explain why some of them hated to see Christmas decorations being put up around the house.

Lol as a kid, even I didn’t understand their “sin.” I think God would resolve them of what they did. In fact, I think He would reserve a spot in heaven for both of them.
