@@ExploringCabinsandMines It was much, much worse. The only thing I saw inside of the cabin you were at was dead bees with live ones outside. I swept up and set up my gear. Later that night I was dragging it all back to the Jeep and sleeping in a cot outside.

That graffiti “W6DUF” ( not sure about the last letter, is most likely a HAM radio operator call sign. The red paint is from a mineral resources survey. Nice video! Keep them coming!

Actually, it is W6BUF. You can look up ham call signs on the ARRL and FCC websites. He is an Amateur Extra as am I. I was in this mine last March. Many more on the other side of the hill. I have not explored them all. When I was there, the canyon was crawling with people, like someone kicked an anthill. The cabin was also occupied by a large group of off-roaders. There are several other intersting mines further up in the mountains but the roads have been washed out and are now very difficult to get to. Need either a side-by-side or a very modified jeep. Good to see it again, thanks for the explore video. I only took pictures.

@@jimForgottenHinterland check out my Thompson canyon video, it's a mine about 4 miles up the canyon from this one there are shelves in the mine stocked with canned food and a completely intact mill, we used dirtbikes then hiked. at 11:47 is an adit on the backside of the mountain that connects to the main adit.

Funny for someone who is seemingly concerned about wandering around in a wet mine but never mind the fact that you're in an active quake fault area where the shafts can and have collapsed. Death Valley National Monument was my third assignment with the NPS and you're in an area that has issues. Stay out and stay alive is the miners creedo. Unless you're willing to become a member of a mine SAR group, I'd highly advise against going in to places that, you might not get out of one day. 4 dead recovered from the Plowboy mine in North Idaho. I helped carry all 4 out. Radon gas...if you're not equipped to enter a mine and get out again, you're clock for self deletion is ticking.
@ExploringCabinsandMines
@ExploringCabinsandMines 2 ай бұрын
Hmmm I have a Co2 detector and a 4gas detector is that enough for you? If an adit has been open for 100 years and survived hundreds of earthquakes why would it collapse when I'm in it? There are no stats for abandoned mine deaths. actually more people die swimming in abandoned quarries. you're full of malarkey 4 people die statistically means nothing.taking reasonable precautions exploring mines can be safe. you're parroting others fears. you're scared of a one story cabin !!! stay home stay safe.

I stay out of Talc and Coal mines, mines with too much groundfall , and I'm not crawling on my belly. generally hard rock mines are safe. I carry rope. water. food 2 gas detectors ,jackets and leave my satellite communicator outside the adit checking in with others as to my entry and exit times.

Does all the green copper corrosion on the walls mean that there is still copper ore in there that could be theoretically mined..? Or they extracted the “rich vein” and left what was too difficult or uninteresting to extract….?

Looks like the mines we used to go through, just north of Bonnie Clare (?) about 12 miles into the hills. I have an old Edison porcelain lead acid battery they used to power a light over a wheel over a shaft. Patent date around 1887. Enjoyed this video looking forward to watching some more. Really brings back memories? Blew up a lot of dynamite. We were college kids in the early 70s. Bullet proof and just starting on our 9 lives. Lucky to be alive.

Be careful when in MINES and ENCLOSED SPACES. There will be pockets of air that pool and settle that have little to no oxygen. Bring the appropiate Air Quality Monitoring advice, at the very least some Canaries. Also make sure 2 different people know where you're going and when you're expected to return. If there's a cave-in, earthquake, or undergound accident, NOBODY WILL KNOW OR COME FOR YOU unless you have a few people informed on the outside. 2 people incase one gets killed in a vehicle accident while you're exploring.
