I remember seeing them on an airfield, I think in Yorkshire, close to the old A1 in the early 1960s. Although i'm no longer British I have nostalgia grewing up in a country that could produce superb aircraft and cars.

Pretty well same age as our remaining Vulcan Aircraft. Born 1951. Lived under the flight path into AVRO Woodford, (New Mills Derbyshire), so remember the regular sight of these aircraft, and the sound of the Olympus engines many miles away being tested at the airfield. Visited the airfield many times for the summer open days. First flight experience out of Woodford. Went on to learn to fly and met my wife to be, as we both flew out of Woodvale, Blackpool, Liverpool and Hawarden. Good times, and good to see XH558 used now to spark interest and possibly careers in aviation, by offering the opportunity for youngsters to visit, close up, and learn about the history of UK aviation and its continuing and rapid development, particularly here in Lancashire. Keep up the good work ...

Wonderful. Lovely to see and remember all those airfields with an aircraft that had been part of our flying lives so many years ago. Many thanks Rmb5*

We were a USAF family, I grew up on bases around the world. We were stationed at RAF Upper Heyford in the 70's, my dad flinging F-111's into the dreary English sky. I will never forget one of our base open houses/airshows, when three Vulcans came roaring over at 500 ft AGL, right down the centerline. They made our three 'Varks that came after look rather underwhelming lol. 🇺🇸🇬🇧🛫

Superb. Congratulations. Jim Walls (Squadron Leader) Air Electronics officer on the Vulcan has written a book Flying Forwards facing Backwards, recommended reading.

A very enjoyable interview . I was fortunate in seeing many Vulcans out of ,Scampton and Waddington flying around during my basic training at RAF Swinderby . I took our Son to the last display at Farnborough , he still says it was the loudest thing he has ever heard . I believe there was a mascot teddy bear named , Chadwick who sat in the manual bomb aimers window . Was it , Martin Withers who flew the very last display ? Thanks ,Guys .

Great interview. I actually swore when I saw the Vulcan takeoff at Fairford, I was so surprised but so impressed. It made the show for me. Sadly missed, but happy memories.

Was stuck in traffic on the motorway trying to get back home from a trip to Scotland. Everyone started to park on the side of the motorway and then started getting out and filming. We had no idea what was going on, but we followed anyway, and I’m glad we did. Moments later, this comes flying overhead howling. one of the best days of my life.

This is disingenuous - the 10 Bomb Carrier Was TRIALED on the Vulcan - but NEVER used........The Vulcans bomb load was 21 x 1,000lb bombs. The Victor however from it's outset could always carry 35 x 1,000lb bombs ie using 7 x 7 Bomb carriers - it could also use the 10 Bomb Carrier but this made the all up-weight huge and would have reduced the fuel load but with an original 35,000lb bomb load it didn’t need it........

in a life span I have seen this country fall from power due to government lack of spending and vision, a country of the greatest inventors.... we have taken the likes of the victor, vulcan, harrier etc for granted and now they are gone but the Russian threat increases no wonder Putin says he can destroy us with a push of a button

Sat inside the cockpit of one once, on the ground though! Tiny cockpit as it had to be pressurised (no room to swing a pencil!), analogue computer, etc., amazing 195O's era electronics/electro-mechanicals, even handheld paper-card b+w identification/recognition for enemy attack aircraft (I bought deck of them), even once saw the last one flying at Scarborough, but perhaps the best bit is - it were designed and built "upnorf"... ):-)
