Great video, I know it’s a bit marmite but I love the section through Glasgow. It’s the Scottish version of Los Angeles with that going through the way it does 😁
@cxyroads5 күн бұрын
For sure, and there’s nothing else quite like it in the country, nothing else that carves through the centre of a city like the M8 does. I like it too, it’s spectacular… until you get stuck in traffic on it though haha, then it’s not fun at all 🫢

@@cxyroads I’ve been on it 3 times and been lucky on all 3 occasions Can’t believe they’re still working on those viaducts though, that must be at least 3 or 4 years they’ve been doing that

Used to drive this motorway frequently when I kept a boat on the West Coast. Didn't like driving through the busiest section in Glasgow, but relaxed a little once we were passed it. Always stopped at Harthill Services for a coffee when returning to Edinburgh to break the journey. Thanks for sharing.

Nice video 😀 the M8 is an interesting motorway, it also has some of the oldest and newest sections of motorway in Scotland

No it's not. It's a boring, terrible motorway. There's nothing good about it at alll.

It’s definitely not fun when you’re stuck in traffic on it… there’s nothing else in the country quite like the section through Central Glasgow though, it’s definitely unique

I actually really like the motorway that goes between England and Scotland, it's nice and scenic and the traffic isn't too bad on it either. And nice music added to the video, I think it matches the landscape :)
@cxyroads2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the support :-) I agree, the scenery is great, especially on the A74(M) and then the M6 past the Lakes. And yeah from what I’ve found from doing this trip quite often, north of Lancaster the traffic is virtually always quite light, especially the sections in Scotland. Quite a nice drive indeed :)
@Ryan-mc7eh2 ай бұрын
@@cxyroads Yes I agree that the section of the M6 up north feels completely different to the heavy traffic more south. The section of the M6 in Cumbria feels like a completely different motorway.
@cxyroads2 ай бұрын
Definitely - much less traffic up north, and much nicer scenery. If you ignore the Carlisle bypass section then the M6 in Cumbria has similarly quiet traffic levels to the A74(M) on the other side of the border, almost feels like it’s the same motorway as the A74(M)
@Ryan-mc7eh2 ай бұрын
@@cxyroads Yes I agree that those certain sections of the M6 and A74(M) are nice and scenic. It would be better as well if the M74 had 3 lanes all the way instead of 2. They should have made it like that when they first built the road, but I don't think there's any chance they will do that now, it was cause too much disruption and traffic problems for today's traffic levels. That section is between junctions 6 and 12 and is about 17 and a half miles long. I reckon that if they were to widen that section of the M74 from 2 lanes to 3, it would take about 4 or 5 years.
@cxyroads2 ай бұрын
Agree, the M74 with 2 lanes is quite the bottleneck at times! The M74 is quite a bit older than the A74(M), so I assume they only did only 2 lanes each way because the traffic levels weren’t nearly as high 40-50 years ago compared to now. Probably difficult to widen in some areas too, especially given that it passes right on the edge of Larkhall, Kirkmuirhill and Lesmahagow, and it would also be very expensive, and - you’re right - very disruptive and time-consuming to widen such a long section!

I'm sure this bit of the M6 has the furthest carriageway split of any motorway in the UK, the part by the Gunnerkeld Stone Circle. And one part of Sleagill had an overpass while the other has an underpass.
