I was going to buy a Civic si until I recently found out about this major problem. Sounds like their high pressure fuel system is a total failure. Too much pressure blows fuel past cold rings and disaster. So what did you end up trading for?

Yes it was so bad I couldn't believe it. I know makers are getting better at high pressure DI but no clue on if Honda ever remedied this. We got an equinox with the 1.5 DI immediately after. Did an oil analysis after a full oil change interval and no oil/fuel dilution.

The long term wear on the bearings is the issue, nobody knows how much wear this is causing. Nobody forced Honda to switch from the bulletproof K24 engines to this 1.5L Earth Dreams nightmare.
@donniev81818 ай бұрын
There's a reason why Honda removed the "earth dreams" badge off of this engine. The direct injection plus turbo builds up too much pressure and pushes gasoline past the rings. I think it's simply the design, that small of an engine cannot handle that much pressure. Stiffer or wider rings may be a fix?

You know things have really started to change. Fast forward to 2024. Major issues with new Tundras and Tacomas. I don't think either is much if any better than anything else these days. But that is why we bought a Honda back at that time, reputation. We were grossly underwhelmed by the response from Honda and the general quality of some of the components. For example, the push button on the shifter shot out one day, including the spring. Bounced around the inside of the car like a pinball. Luckily this happened at the dealership when I was working with the dilution issues. They did replace the button immediately but dang, my 2010 Malibu with 215k has a shifter that feels like a tank compared to the cheapness in the Honda.

I agree with you a 100 percent. I currently have a 2019 Kawasaki Teryx 4 , my biggest issue with the teryx is you can not enclose it easily. I live in Canada's western Arctic and you can't scrape vinyl windows. I don't need 4 seats on a regular bases , but it is nicer to have if you do. I just contacted the closest dealer on the rmax 4 le. I would like the adjustable shocks. I am also getting the factory full cab and a heater. Things freeze pretty quickly in the box of the Teryx, and the heated cargo area will be a welcomed addition. I just rescued a senior dog that just turned 7 the first of December. And he loves going on adventures with us. We do a lot of fishing and camping and no way could I go and start leaving him home. And I retire soon and moving to the east coast with the narrow tight trails there. Thanks I enjoyed your video and I don't want a long wheel base 4 seater. My other option was the new Polaris ADV 2 door. But paying the premium price for a Polaris that has so so reliability in the Arctic did not excit me

My solution is: using 5W30 A3/B3 oil and changing the oil myself every 5000kms (3k miles) or 5 months. The filter i change every 10000kms. It costs me 12 euro to change my oil , and 1 hour per 5 months. I don't consider this a big problem. Direct injection is the reason.
@coachvonyo Жыл бұрын
At a 3000 mile interval we would have been changing our oil every 2 months and it would be over a quart high at that interval with raw gas. Unacceptable. We have owned multiple direct injected vehicles and the oil dilution is near 0 after full oil change intervals. Very glad we are rid of it. Clearly a faulty design. Hopefully for new Honda owners they have fixed this, and their poor customer service.
