Hi, happy new year to you and your family, I’ve been looking forward to this review for a while, these wagons look superb with detailing that must have been an eye opener back when they were first released, the prices of these great wagons in the secondhand market were insane, I read on the RMweb that Dapol were selling off full sets for £90 at Alexandria Palace model railway show back in 2011/12 because of issues with the models at the time. Dapol we’re concerned that the cost of a full set would deter modellers from buying them, £190 for a set is good value in my opinion and the added bonus that all previous model issues would be amended. I believe Dapol should look into producing some JJA auto ballaster wagons, Bachmann have had the monopoly on the model for well over a decade now and prices are beyond a joke, these wagons have a huge amount of detailing compared to the JJA wagons yet cost half as much, your class 37 looks superb with its white rimed wheels and coloured axle boxes and springs, many thanks for sharing your wagons and knowledge of them with us.

Ya sorry it's taken a while, it's been in the making for a while but then I got a new phone and in turn a better camera, so started the filming again....and work gets a little in the way, but that does pay my bills lol. Well hopefully now they are re-releasing them again prices might come down, fingers crossed, mind you that shouldn't matter now because you can just buy a brand new set. Ya I can vouch for that about the prices, it's crazy but nice that they even sold the faulty stock, can't imagine that they would do it nowadays, shame. I'm sure it'll be only a matter of time where other companies will produce them. Thank you, the class 37 is the Accurascale item and runs well and looks amazing. Nice new model from Accurascale of a class 37 ! I had a few of these in Hornby and lima many years ago! I also was a fitter on BR and worked on the class. The power unit of the 37 was offered by EE either at 1750bhp or 2000bhp from their start but BR were looking for a type 3 locomotive that is in terms up to 1999bhp so 2000bhp would take the 37 into type 4 class ! The trials we made later were with an 1800bhp straight six Mirlees Blackstone or Ruston Paxman 1800bhp straight six, giving a maximum tractive effort of 60,000lbs with the cp7 traction motors reducing the top speed by 10mph to 80mph this with added weight up to 120 tonnes gave type4 performance but keeping it in the type 3 class if all this makes sense?
@mrmartinb16156 күн бұрын
Ya it really is stunning, wait til batch three arrives. From the picture alone it looks slightly better. It's amazing to see how far we have come in terms of modelling. No way, you must know these locos inside out then. lol, What were they like to work on then? Wow the amazing extra information incredible, thank you. I hate to say it but I may or may not of order one or two 37/9's from Accurascale as well, but I think they'll be here late this year or early next. Yes, it make perfect sense. What does CP stand for regarding the traction motor? Do you know if this loco still retains the 2000hp engine or was it more of a myth? So in terms it was the most power type 3 loco and could compete with the type 4's. Wow 60,000lbs! Isn't that wait the weight class 37/7's could achieve? Thank you so much for the in slight and extra info. 👍👍👍

@mrmartinb1615 The CP7( control period mk7) bogies were fitted to sub classes to electronically control the wheel slip from the individual axles that this type of early diesel electric locos were renowned for! BR management realised the 37 was an out standing machine and was capable of a life extension period, and so all manner of tweaks were put in place! EE V12 CSVT although a fine unit was thirsty so the straight sixes were sort from the two main British engine makers who were looking for test beds with the hope of a total re- modernisation of all the class! This never happened, though! The great thing about EE 37 was that it was able to operate in multiple, up to three units, and three 37s could handle anything asked of them and more? The two best mixed traffic locomotives were undoubtedly the 37 and the 47 ,sixty years on, and they are still with us! The locomotive in question was converted back to standard, I believe? The 37/7 was a heavily rebuilt 37/0. The max tractive effort was recorded on a dry rail of 62,000 lbs from the original of 55,500lbs that was still impressive at 1750bhp ! A 47 was 60,000lbs at 2750bhp at the time. The 37/9 was recorded at 62,800lbs all these upgrades came from ongoing mods that happened over years of rebuilds, and the 37/7 is the result of all the upgrades .the best that could be achieved from a locomotive that has served the British rail network well beyond expectations?

An excellent review, as we've come to expect from you Martin! Thank you. Incidentally, very disappointingly my recent purchases of Accurascale's batch 2 class 37s have STILL got the original DCC sound issue! The sound cuts out a second after turning it on. This is due to the large Accurathrash speaker being 4 ohms instead of 8 ohms. I have had to buy and change all the speakers to 8 ohms in 6 locos at £15 each! Really, Accurascale should have resolved this, but no, they are still selling the 37s with 4 ohm speakers! The actual issue is that they designed/manufactured the speaker circuit in parallel (there's 2 speakers in each loco) instead of series, which effects the impedance across the DCC chip's amplifier circuit. In-parallel circuit wiring divides resistance or impedance where as in-series circuit wiring adds resistances/impedances. Because Accurascale's speaker circuit wiring is in parallel, the impedance on/across the 37's speaker circuit is too low for the DCC chip to handle, it's out of ESU's specification, and so the chip's safety feature cuts off the sound to protect itself. Richard at Roads and Rails did a YT video on this quite some time ago explaining exactly this issue! Accurascale's advice/remedy is to reduce the volume via CV63 from 192 down to 150. This is not really good enough or acceptable on the second run/batch, seeing as the problem is well known from the first run/batch! Prolonged use with the wrong (too low) impedance across the sound chip can cause it to fail completely! These chips are expensive! Apart from that major concern I'd say these locos are superb. Anyway Martin, a brilliant video as usual. Thank you so much for your efforts, it's really appreciated. Kind regards, Julian.

@@theeventhorizon-valebridge9512 Thank you, thank you thank you Julian, hope your keeping well and had an amazing Christmas. Oh know that's not good at all. Wow, I'm surprised by that not......trouble probably being is the "bigger" changes are happening in batch 3 locos, operating fan, better details and "maybe" issues sorted on the speaker side of things. Who knows 🤷♂️. Can you notice a difference in sound between the speakers at all? Ya its definitely money you don't want to be spending out when you've already spent shed loads. Wow that's incredible to know about parallel and series, I didn't know that. (A little above my head) I'll have to check out that video, sounds really interesting. It would be a really shame to have to turn the volume down on something this and like you say its not acceptable. Probably guessing that when they found out about the problems in batch one batch it was too late to change batch 2...hence the issues......as it stands all of my Accurascale locos have been faultless ( Touch wood) but I've had to send 2 out of the four of my Bachmann class 37's back due to motor and gearbox issues. Its a bit of a pain, but it got all sorted in the end. Thankyou again for the kind words Julian and very much appreciated, glad you enjoyed it. 👍👍. Martin.

@@mrmartinb1615 Hello Martin, No there's no difference in sound between the 4 Ohm and the 8 Ohm versions of Accurathrash speakers. They should be fitting the 8 Ohm ones now as standard in the class 37s to alleviate the sound cutting out issue, but no, they are still selling them with the 4 Ohm speakers! They even sell the 8 Ohm versions on their website so it's not to do with supply or no knowing! In the past I've had dodgy motors in Bachmann class 37s, which is actually the same fault as on the first releases of all the Accurascale classes: clogged commutators from super soft carbon brush debris. The Bachmann class 90s can suffer broken bogie mounting columns where the factory has over tightened the bogie attaching screws and also their pantograph servos are pathetically fragile: the tiny cog gear always breaks! I've had both of those issues multiple times! Regards Julian

The wagons are stunning, I just didn't want to pay the full price on them, £55 or so but most of them I got for around the £40 mark and less, Try and save where I can lol. O h very nice, so exciting times then. The loco is stunning, take it from me. Let us know if you get it. 👍👍

Ya you know, well I thought I'd treat myself as I've being really really good. lol. Plus I don't see many second hand Revolution Train TEA tank wagon.....And I don't have any in the lite green. That's 26 now in total.....just as well I have one or two class 60's coming. Depending on which class 60 turns up first will depend what you see first.🤣🤣 And with the lobster wagons they will fit right in with the Dapol JNA Network Rail wagons.....It's all going to plan.....ish. lol. 👍👍

@jackstrains4468 You and me both, they are going to be amazing.....Between me, you and the gate posts I've order 5 of them. As it stands 3 from Cavalex and 2 from Accurascale. ops...lol. I think the Cavalex are arriving at the end of January/February time. 👍
@jackstrains4468Ай бұрын
@mrmartinb1615 wow, this'll stay a secret! Can you do a comparison video please, I'd love to get a 60 from either cavalex, accurascale or hornby, and im not sure which one is best!
@mrmartinb161528 күн бұрын
@jackstrains4468 To be honest with Cavalex and Accurascale you would not be disappointed with, both models will more than likely be breathe taking. I have two old hornby models (8 pin non sound) and to look at still stunning and a beautiful running (motor in the middle great pulling power)......but with the other two they are going to be just that little better all over. If you would be happy with the Hornby sound class 60 get one........but again I'd just save the extra £30/£40/£50 and the daddy, Accurascale or Cavalex. I cant't wait lol. I will try to get round to doing a comparison video it might be a while though. Thank you, mum's the word. lol 👍👍

Very interesting video. Thank you for taking time in your life to film this footage. The South section of the Cambridge Busway was built on the formation of the London & North Western line from Bedford via Sandy. This has separate over bridge on Long Road. The Junction which you film at is called Shepreth Branch Junction. Network Rail is moving the switch and crossing on the Down Main further North of its current position. This is why the track bed in your video is being widen on the Trumpington side of line. Christmas 2024 should see a major engineering procession to make all four lines through Cambridge South operational. Bad luck for any one to London for football league events over the break.

Great watch. Not easy working under the wires like that and with all the various ‘ furniture’ in the way. The track laying should be equally impressive, especially with a switch being laid. You’ll need to get that on film!
@mrmartinb1615Ай бұрын
@@michaelhoulan1092 Glad you enjoyed. Ya it certainly looks like a fine art filling up the wagons. I did manage to film part of tthe rack laying when they were renewing the line through my local station. Incredible to watch. Ya I'm not too sure when the points are scheduled to go in, cos I could be very tempted to pop up there again. 👍👍

@mrmartinb1615 its the same old story, everyone wants the RAILWAY, but not near my backyard last I read over seventy home's to be demolished to make way for EWR project bletchley to Bedford EWR want to close the existing station's and build new ones away from existing level crossing, the people of WOBURN are not happy with the decision as EWR has offered to replace the road crossing with a road bridge, please keep us informed about what's happening with what you video at Cambridge I found it very interesting video 👍

Great footage, Martin, quite impressive watching the track excavator controllers with their operation skills. I’m surprised no one‘s tried to climb into the engine room of 66 since it has no hatch doors I thought that was quite funny.. thanks for sharing again and congratulations on your thousand subscribers 😎👍
