Could somoene provide clarification. Is this an initiation of an woman as a Bokonon (second hand of ifa seeds)? If so, are there age or menstruation limitations on when it can occur (has the woman in the video lost her menstruation)? Do women see Gbadu (igba odu)? Can the possess her in Togo Afa? Do initiated Afa women have the exact abilities of a Male Bokonon or are they limited or inferior in rank as man? If so, what limitations to they have We would love to know because there are differing narratives being proposed on the internet regarding vodoun fa or afa initiation for women and Diasporic Ifa believers are very confused by the contents of videos such as this one. Clear answers would help us! Thank you

Thank you for your questions. I summarize the response for you as follows: 1. In Ewe Afa, women can be initiated. The first initiation involves only 1 hand (alor deka). Then depending on the Kporli(sign) she obtains, a second hand (Alor eve) can be added. 2. Women can sit on Afa ba (Afa mat) and do divination as long as she is in her menopause. Or she has decided not have children anymore. If she is yet to have children and she desires to have one, then its not recommended she performs divinatory duties. 3. The same rule 2 applies for Gbadu. A woman may be allowed to see him if she is in her menopause. The Fa kporli of the woman is also considered. 4. The rules of Afa is not a general or blanket one.It varies from Agbasa (ancestral group) to Agbasa and also communities. For instance, among the Yorubas, women are mostly forbidden from taken Fa initiation. But the situation is a bit different in Benin, Togo and Ghana. 5. What do you mean by rank? Some of the Afa kporlis exhibit more power than others. So some women can be on a stronger Kporli than some men. Such a women could have a higher pyschic ability than some men. But that doesnt mean the women can do everything. For instance, women are not allowed to initiate people. Feel free to contact me on WhatsApp: +233203005802 or +4917630173301.

@@africanvodunculture918 Thank you so much for these answers! They clarify so much. What would you say is the percentage of men to women in the membership of 2nd hand of Afa? Is it a mostly male priesthood or equally divided? Interesting that in your zones, they allow women to see Gbadu. In most Benin and Nigeria zones (and in Cuba), it is absolutely taboo. I will contact via Whatsapp for further questions, thank you!
