Rutger Hauer wrote this final monologue the night before the scene was shot. It wasn't in Philip K Dick's book, Do Androids dream of Electric Sheep, nor in the shooting script. It's so personal, so inner dialogue, and he played the spots off of it. He'll be missed.
Probably one of the MOST important scenes in cinema history!!! THIS IS GOLDEN HISTORY OF CINEMA!!! VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!

With this one scene, Rutger Hauer achieved cinematic immortality, despite the theme of the entire movie being that of impending mortality. Amazing.

I really love how this movie's climax doesn't play out like a standard movie. The first time I watched it, I was almost kinda let down by how little action there was by the end of the movie. I was confused by how naturalistic and complicated and unclear the motivations of the androids were. It's not super complex but Rutger Hauer's acting really invites you to think about what's happening.

I remember watching this movie as a kid, maybe around 10 or 11, with my dad during one of our weekly movie nights. This scene gripped me completely. When Batty died, I remember whispering, "No.." without thinking.
