I took the ride from Lorton to Sanford. Didn’t get much sleep but enjoyed it overall. Waiting for your car though took FOREVER. Word of advice get the private room and NOT the roomette. The toilet/shower combo was nice to have.

ok I have taken AMTRAK many times. The type of people vary from professionals to low lifes to race track people. Ok first professionals, no problem here. Low lifes : I have seen more than once people take their shoes and socks off, and start cutting their toe nails in their seats. I have seen slobs buying under age teens drinks , going to bar car and bringing them back, trying to get them drunk and take advantage of them. The problem is that the conductors seem to vanish. I have seen people party like it's 1999 for whole trip. I have seen people not pay, and get thrown off at next stop. One trip so many people entered because the race track was done, that people were putting their lawn chairs in the middle of aisle. They had to stop in 20 minutes and hook up more cars. Another time the train ran into dead cars on track and had to empty the train and move the people to another train. Another time I had to exit the train, take a "trolly" where the police forced every one off, because they were looking for someone with choppers in air at night. Put us on bus and bus wen up the hill to cul de sac couldn't turn around, was rocking back and forth, people were turning yellow. Then everyone said enough and walked back down to trolley station. All, true. would I lie to you ? Taking the train, is MORE than an adventure.

We took the Auto Train back in the early 70s when I was a little boy. All I clearly remember is watching the movie “Man of La Mancha” and having Kellogg cereal in a built in plastic bowl (those were the days of the cardboard boxes that never made good bowls). 🤣

Unfortunately, they don’t have movies anymore, apparently the movie companies got ridiculously expensive. The last movie we saw was Parent Trap with Lindsay Lohan in 1999 or 98 .

Hi I'm a new subscriber and just discovering your videos. I have been researching TV for the last couple of months and have been looking for videos on Lifestyle visits. Thank you for recording the phone call that was very helpful in knowing what they would be asking and just the flow of the conversation. I watched Some Kind of Heaven and forgot about it until your review thank you for explaining the differences of a true Documentary and reality TV that was very interesting. I'm working through your videos in Chronological order so I'm still a couple of years behind. Hoping to do a lifestyle visit next year as I have too many trips booked through the end of 2024. Thanks for keeping the videos going!

@@RustyNelson Although, I will say something on the positive side and I thought this was pretty cool…I was watching police chase videos on KZbin and with my earbuds on, when you’re watching the video from the body cam perspective and you hear the sounds of the tires as well as the car rocking that together with the vibration of the train wheels..it feels like you’re in the cop car 🚔 riding shotgun 🤣👍

There is a fantastic German Restaurant in Sanford . We have been taking the auto train off and on since 1998. Have had some awful delays where , they ran out of food . But if your train is ever very delayed and you write a letter , you get a free trip . One Christmas the delays were so bad that we got into Sanford at 11:00 pm ( instead of the morning time ) . We always pay for priority to get our car out early . By the time we got into our house in the West Palm beach area it was 2am Christmas morning. ~ We always get the bedroom with its own bathroom. The big negative is that the room doors do not lock ., Also the beds are not comfortable and the food is mediocre. The food isn’t terrible and you get one free alcoholic drink with your dinner when you have a room . I usually go with their steak option . A positive is that you save mileage on your car and wear and tear . I have to admit that l do like taking the train . Every one should do it once .

Excellent video! We take the train about once a year and get a roomette. I sleep on the top bunk and do just fine and I'm 5'11". If you don't book a room and sit in coach, I would highly recommend bringing snacks. I've seen people bring everything including a charcuterie meal inside a small tackle box because of all the small slots. If you want a gorgeous train trip, go to Chicago and take the California Zephyr to California. Beautiful mountain views with streams for hundreds of miles.

So we have taken this a few times from Lorton to Sanford. One time I had to fly down to Orlando for work ahead of our family vacation and my son and his future wife returning to school in Florida with their cars, so my husband, daughter, son and future daughter inlaw took the train down with 2 cars and a truck. I took it with my husband and daughter with one car. For us it has always been a good experience. We always just had the coach seats. People tacked up blankets from the overhead to add more privacy. The seats are so generously sized and lay completely flat for sleep. Bring a blanket and pillow in your train bag. We'd so it again and are considering it for this fall because we have back to back trips with the car.

Rusty, thanks for the info. We have taken the auto train a couple times and one thing to mention is if you ride in coach you cannot eat dinner in the dining car; it's only for those who get the rooms. We've done the coach and brought sandwiches. We also bring a bag with blankets and pillows. And if the train isn't full and there are 2 of you traveling, one person can go take an empty seat and stretch out to sleep.

Thanks Rusty! I took the auto train on the way back from my Lifestyle visit. It was my second time on the auto train. Kind of a last minute decision. I was not looking forward to that drive back to MD. I usually have to call because we need a Handicap bedroom and my Mom needs assistance. And I find if I call, the price is better than what is on the website. Looks like you had smooth sailing with the check in. We arrived around 1ish and it was crazy as the train had arrived late and people were still coming off. But they are extremely efficient and we left on time. Snacks/drinks are a must. You can bring a little cooler but not a big one. I made that mistake. I slept (or tried to) sleep on the top bunk. You have to be a contortionist to get up there and it was claustrophobic and hot! Next time, I think we will just leave the seats and not do the beds. Many people have said that if they are travelling with 2 people, they do two roomettes across for each other for more room and I believe the 2nd roomette is cheaper. It is not perfect, but I would absolutely do it again.

Today, on Sunday's, he has the whole train. I am manager for the mechanical dept in Miami, first and only woman in the Southern division. I was a Foreman years ago at the Auto Train. If you ever need anything, or we can help you, let us know. My name is Jill Sheppard, and my husband is Virlyn. We are retiring in a couple of months and going to the Villages. I see your video was posted about a year ago, so, evidently, @ least in some states, according to one of our most trusted, knowledgable plant nurseries in NC, Sevin was removed by government action from the market.
@RustyNelson
@RustyNelson 2 күн бұрын
I think that you need to revisit your knowledgeable plant person because this is not true. Sevin is a brand and has many type of products. So to just say Sevin really means nothing like saying Kleenex. The old Sevin used the active ingredient carbaryl, and the concentrate was kind of a thick, white liquid and low odor. The new Sevin uses the active ingredient that is quite popular with commercial vegetable and fruit growers called Mustang Max (active ingredient of zeta-cypermethrin. The stuff I use does not have carbaryl. Subscribe Button for new videos: bit.ly/3aToJ3H

Is there a cost for guest pass? On Airbnb they charge $50
@RustyNelson
@RustyNelson 4 күн бұрын
That $50 cost is what the holder of the ID has to pay to transfer a full use pass over to the renter. It is a transfer fee not a fee on the pass itself. Hi Rusty. The app and website Ventusky is incredible for weather. I have never seen anything like it. Also Beryl pounded Houston really hard last week with rain and winds. Trees and branches down all over and it took 7 days to get most of the power back. Some are still waiting. Last. I was driving down Meggison road this weekend and saw a pair of white sunglasses in the curbside that probably flew out of someone’s golf cart and I immediately thought of you. My husband and I were there when the tornado ca through and hit Lady Lake and the Villages . We were at the HTR in Leesburg Fl when 22 people perished in a double-wide community. It was the last squall line (3rd) one that came through about 2am and it caught everyone in line off quard😢 They thought the storm was over, but it wasn’t! I stayed up all that night watching the local weather, because we weren’t use to hurricanes and tornadoes 🌪️ I remember the meteorologist saying that the squall line was going to hit Leesburg 😮 After that storm and so many lives lost. The state of Florida started giving out NOA weather radios to all the residents
