If anyone watching cuts leather that isn't as thick or sturdy as what he used, I recommend precutting (with a rotary cutter or straight razor) about an inch. That way you can feed some through before pulling it. It does work on softer/thinner leather but it's just hard to get it perfect. :)

Is there an actual White dye...? I'd like to use to mix with some of the darker dye colours to brighten them up a little.

What a wonderful video and how lovely to put faces to names, it helps to personalise the customer service relationship. Abbey is my go to manufacturer for my small but growing business. The level of customer service is second to none. I have spoken many times with Andrew, Ellen and other members of the team and they really do value their UK small business customers. The level of knowledge and valuable advise offered has enabled me to change materials and kick start my new business. I now work with Biothane and this change from leather to Biothane has enabled me to continue my Dog lead Business, Big leads for working dogs and large breeds. I cannot thank Abbey England enough for their top quality products and outstsnding personalised service. Kind regards and thank you to you all. John

I’m interested in a draw knife or possibly a plough gauge. What degree should the edges be sharpened to? I would guess 10 degrees but not sure????
@briandalponte58984 жыл бұрын
MrThumper1440 not an expert, but I’m pretty sure 10 degrees is way too shallow for anything other than a razor. If you sharpened it like that it definitely wouldn’t keep an edge for long and would likely result in chips/damage to the cutting edge when cutting through thick belt leather. I’d say at least 20 and honestly you could probably get away with closer to 30.
@MrThumper14404 жыл бұрын
Brian Dal Ponte .... Thank you for your reply!! I think we’re on the same page. I should’ve been more clear.....10 degrees per side, 20 total degrees. Also, I’ve talked to some people since I’ve posted and although no one’s given me any numbers to go by, they did say they sharpened one side at a greater angle to help encourage the leather to not pull away from the tool(if that makes sense?).
@briandalponte58984 жыл бұрын
MrThumper1440 I do mean 20 degrees per side, as in you hold it at a 20 degree (or more) angle when grinding against the whetstone. But yeah like sharpening anything, it’s finding a balance between sharpness and edge retention. But something that’s cutting tough leather should have a robust edge I think. Find what works for you but I’m just sayin if you sharpen at 10 degrees per side you might have to resharpen a lot lol

I have the rolled rope type for long line. I understand the ma material is waterproof and mould resistant but how do I stop water getting into the cut end of the line. Went to the open free end absorb water and dirt causing it to get wet/damp from the inside out? Is there a way to seal it? Many thanks
@AbbeyEnglandLtd5 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for your comment. Biothane say that for most canine articles, manufacturers have found sealing the end unnecessary. However, if you need to, this can be done with heat. It also can be done with glue or varnish. If using heat on Beta(PVC), they recommend ventilation.

Hi Katherine, thanks for your comment. You cab buy them online but you will need to register first to access our prices. We ship internationally so your location shouldn't be an issue.www.abbeyengland.com/workshop-materials/tools.html

I appreciate the information about the Biothane. I have bought the beta heavy duty & hi gloss. I make dog collars & just starting now with biothane. Is the standard the best to work with. I want to secure with rivets & decorate w/ crystal rivets.

How well would it sew in a machine.
@AbbeyEnglandLtd6 жыл бұрын
Nathan Garza Hi, being waxed, it does not work well in a machine. You need Ritza 44 which is the same braided thread but treated with silicone especially for use in machines.
