Move order is important: 2... e6 instead of Bb7 allows the c8 bishop to come out sooner to pin the kinight on c3 (e4 b6 d4 e6 Nc3 Bb4) but it wont work if instead: e4 b6 d4 Bb7 Nc3 e6 4. a3!

FYI: THIS IS WHY I SUBSCRIBED. You are teaching real chess to us newbies, and intermediates and giving great tactics and strategy to look for during our games. Great teaching! Thanks.

A gambit has a two-fold purpose; first, to take your opponent out of their game and into unknown territory of which you are familiar. And second, to sacrifice material to free up space for maneuvering pieces. The idea that gambits or any other type of opening are dubious, is a misunderstanding of the game. Every move that is made on the board, from the beginning of a game until the end, has an equalizing move. Which is why we have draws. So like physics, for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. There are no dubious openings, only dubious moves.

caro kann at beginner level is very solid, people will blunder a pawn or a pieces. playing the caro will give you solid position where you wait the opponet to blunder than convert. its a style of playing. caro send me from 800 to 1300 in 2 weeks before than going e 4 e 5 was to complex and unnececery. so its your opinion and i dont agree

I don't see any reason the King can't take d6 at 5:50, saving the pawn on g7. The rook either has to trade or move away. Yeah the bishop can check on a3, but is there anything there after king moves to c7? It's an annoying pin, but your rook is running out of moves and can get locked in with black knight to f6. Maybe you studied this deeper or I'm missing something obvious though.

Which is puzzle system do you think is better puzzle rush or puzzle storm
@LightSquares2 ай бұрын
Both approximately aim at the same thing, penalising the player for too much guessing. Puzzle rush (chess dot com) has 3 strikes and you are out, whilst puzzle storm (lichess) deducts time.

You are wrong. Caro Kahn is excellent and can easily be simplified. Exchange, advanced, Tartakower, and Fantasy. All have very common theory and simplify to about 2 to 3 main lines that have relatively easy tactical plans. It is tactical, sharp, and opens the position with relatively simple play.

Kinda wanted to let you know, so just placing this under your most recent video, I've been playing b6 since August last year, with reasonable success. I broke 1400 on b6. However, the deeper theoretical knowledge I get of b6, the more I come to understand it as a second tier defence. What sold me on this was playing against b6 a few times within the last month, where by then I knew all the theory and ideas, and I just crushed. Also, I REALLY struggle with it OTB, but I also seem to be a worse player with another human in front of me, for some reason.
@LightSquares6 ай бұрын
Yes I think 1… b6 is not sustainable in longer time formats as you get stronger. The problem is 1 e4 b6 2 d4 Bb7 3 Bd3 or 1 d4 b6 2 e4 Bb7 3 Bd3. I think if you want to include it in your rep you have to play e6 in response to e4 or d4, offer a transposition to French and if your opponent declines, proceed with b6 lines. GM Jose González talks about this approach in his book English Defence. Blitz rapid online I think it won’t matter until you are very strong.

"What is the point? Games are decided by blunders besides the elite level". That is real true my frind, reasonable openning theory and past that it is end game and tactics for the amateur players. I have being pretty close to national masters a few years and it is still the same thing, who is better at middle game plan, tactitcs and end game knowledge. By the way, always great content with a lot of humor!

Great video man. Super helpful. I always found it really annoying when people would go Qe6+ then Qg6 because I knew it was punishable but didn't know how to deal with it and kept getting rekt. Can I ask, at 2:38 you say "the queen has no escape squares" but doesn't h6 work? Same at 2:58 you say "the queen has one square" but i would have though h6 is there also. Or is it just that those are the squares that allow the queen to defend the bishop?
