I was watching another guys channel the other day and he was asked about how he gets his top coat so glossy on his vehicles. He said that his secret was not to prime but put the top coat on instead as priming disturbs the suface finish. Not sure if that helps Mal. Have a great year!

Whilst I understand the comments about metal into plastic, it has to be noted that this kit is over 40 years old. Yes, it is not up to their modern standards, but it’s still the best 1/32 version of this plane by a country mile. Here’s hoping that Tamiya launch a new tooling of this to go with their excellent 1/48 version

How did you paint the deck? Very realistic. I am also assembling this model.
@syrmalcolmАй бұрын
What I did there was just a bunch of dry brushing techniques. It started out with the same "blackish" color - and then I used Vallejo desert sand as a very light drybrush through all the areas of wear. Like all drybrushing, I was light-handed with it so it took a long while to build up the pathways of wear on the deck, but it really was that simple.

I always envisioned a gatlin gun on the end of each of the four wings, the shells would be stored within the wing. This along with the nose gun.

Sounds like you have a few pokers in the fire, like many of us. I also know how work can take you away from your most passionate project, but you have to keep the lights on. I have this vision for a rusting, derelict Batmobile from Batman Forever hidden away in a makeshift garage in a largely abandoned area of Gotham and forgotten about for 32 years, it is a big project but one I am compelled to do. Best of luck on your projects!

He probably gets that symmetry by mocking it up in a 3D rendering program and then mirroring it then uses either a CNC to cut a positive or a 3D printer to print a positive then makes a negative mould of that.

I didn't know anyone made large kits for Battletech, I've wanted some for years. Every time I see the Gundam kits I'm like man they need Battletech ones. I went over to look at this guys page and he threw in the towel in July. Says he will only fill orders for ones he already has moulds for which I was bummed about. He didn't have any models I was interested in enough to pay $100+ for. I am looking for a Thunderbolt TDR-5S and a Firestarter FS9-H. I guess I will keep looking and hoping.

Brilliant!! I thought I'd start mine (1 of 2 - both good price) before I start an assembly line for the squadron of Eagles I have accumulated. Just opened one of them and was disappointed to see it won't display 'nicely' with the Eagles as it is on the stand. Searching builds to see if any hiccups etc (KZbin is great for that and thanks to all who take/have the time to post videos) and found your video about Landing Gear!!!! Just what I need - an Idea and inspiration on how it could be done. Love the perfect placement for a 'tricycle' configuration. I guess I'm off designing and then see how I go with a 3d print effort. (no spare parts or the like) Great job and MANY thanks for taking the time to video, edit and post the build.
@syrmalcolm6 ай бұрын
Thank you for the feedback, I appreciate it! that was exactly the same reason I went down that road, I wanted to display next to my Eagles and I don't have the "airspace" in my house. All I have is shelf-space. Good luck on yours!!!

'A hack having fun'. The way it should be! There's plenty of insanely detailed and skilful builds of this kit on modelling forums being documented, then just stop mid build. I think too many modellers fall into the trap of chasing perfection at the cost of enjoyment.
@mcarland6 ай бұрын
Tamiya really should do a retool of this kit. The other 1/32 F-14 (Trumpeter, Revell) kits have significant issues. This could be a halo kit.

Hey Mal, as you were thinking about adding smoke. Found this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bqCxfqF8fqhnj9Usi=BhOxuUeCQOCS3RvM I like it :) but with smoke you have to keep in mind that the smoke will drop down somewhere. So by doing this too often the smoke can / will create a layer of the Smoking liquid on the model
@syrmalcolm7 ай бұрын
Thank you! I did a "Ghost Rider" cosplay where the skull threw smoke, and the way I lit it, it looked like flames. This is kinda what I was thinking of doing here as well. You're right.. definitely need to be aware of the residue and how that will build up. It's entirely probable that, while it'd be cool to have, it'd only ever be turned on for like 3 minutes over the rest of the life of the model, so... is it really worth it? : ) Thanks!
@hbk24577 ай бұрын
It would be REALLY amazing! But I am with you, would it be worth the effort.... i honestly do not know...as it is not only the Smoking machine itself, but also the preparation of the kit.... and as you mention, how often will it be used.... :-/
