If any, what OBD tool do you use to reset the service light?
@hedley3262 күн бұрын
Stick a rubber plate or even folded up cardboard or a piece of wood under the front wheel to help raise the forks 👍

Speed bleeder, GS911. The RT brake bleed is one of the easiest services to do on that bike.
@TheTrailblazer19744 күн бұрын
So when you're bleeding the brakes, do you put pressure on the brake pedal crack the valve while there is still pressure and then shut the valve whether still pressure. And repeat so you're always pressing pedal cracking the valve, shutting valve and releasing pedal?
@kirksmotorrad4 күн бұрын
yes. open valve. press and hold while closing the valve, let up and repeat

Sir, I just joined your channel. What can I say, excellent! With your permission quick question! If I decide to extend my brake line (for tall bar risers) is it enough to just flush the front brake or do you still need to also flush the rear brake circuit? I have a 2020 R1250RS. Thanks much!
@kirksmotorrad4 күн бұрын
you should be able to just flush out the front circuit
@PeteBerzkalns5 күн бұрын
Speed bleeders aid that process tremendously. Good video.
@TarkusNY5 күн бұрын
Referencing a K1600 which appears to be very similar. The BMW service manual says to perform the bleeding of the front brake on the left side first. I saw you did it on the right side first. Is this an issue?
@kirksmotorrad5 күн бұрын
It is definitely not an issue. Either way they will both get clean fluid.

@kirksmotorrad5 күн бұрын
I have no experience with the moto scan.
@DanSmith-jk4tw4 күн бұрын
I just got my RT but have an 800GS and I can tell you that with the motoscan the process was the same, and then interface different but the path to the ABS service menu is the same.

Nice to see an RT on for a change but I would guess it’s because they never need worked on. 😊 This is one thing I worry the most about with my bike however, it’s 300 miles to my nearest dealership. Guess I’d better invest in doing it myself. Thanks Kirk. Wished I’d lived a lot closer to Crystal Lake IL.

Mine went out today... Shot. Happened on a vacation trip, I'm disappointed. Ended my holiday and thnak god I didn't get killed. It happened somewhere close to the hotel at low speeds. Hauling it back to my city 700km away and now I'm waiting for it to arrive at my mechanic. I love the K1600 but I'm starting to doubt it's reliability

Hello Kirk, I own a 2000 K1200LT, 2nd owner since 2019 with 71k miles on her. I put 40k of those miles on her. She’s had no repairs needed, only preventative maintenance and upgrades, all based on your videos. My wife and I love the LT! I had the pleasure of renting a 2018 K1600 GTL in CA a couple years back and I fell in love with it! I rode it 1,200 miles from the ocean, through the mountains, and through the desert. The GTL is balanced, nimble, and loves the highway and craves the curves. I love the shift assist, the power, and the hill assist is nice. I would buy a GTL but my wife loves the classic look of the LT. Thanks for the compare video!

I am well-familiar with the Cherohala Scenic Skyway, it’s only about 80 miles from my house. I ride it regularly and it’s among my favorite roads in the world! Interesting comparison, but I’m trying to keep my well-loved K1200RS on the road for a few more years. It is getting up in miles though and developing some issues that are beyond my comfort level. The Asheville BMW dealer tells me that they are trying to get away from working on bikes as old as mine. If I can work out the logistics of getting it to your shop I may see if you can help at some point.

The BMW K1600 is an engineering masterpiece. I’ve put 70k miles on K1600’s. As marvelous as they are, I have my current K1600 up for sale. It is used overwhelmingly for two-up riding with my wife and it’s top heaviness at slow speed has made me less sure as a rider. I know that my 2” taller custom seat is part of the problem, but I’m looking for a better two-up riding platform. We’ve had 10’s of thousands of great touring miles on these machines and I’d highly recommend one as a one-up ride.

Hi Kirk, great video. Owner of k16gt 2012 (since 3 years), i can assure that the seat is worst than the GTL. It come in a 2 pieces and you are always seating between the 2 pieces. This is the only negative experience that i got. Now, i have a Corbin seat on it and the more i ride, the more i like it. I agree for the wind on the handle and it is worst with the deflectors closed. Thanks for the tip for the saddle bags. In the rain mode, you feel the difference. Many peoples had an issue with the reverse. Best regards.

I usally perform a brake fluid flush prior to changing the lines so the lines dont get contaminated fluid in them You end end up with pristine fluid and lines when done
