My 2001 k1200lt has 175000 miles on it and I still can't wait to take it for a ride. I've done a lot of work keeping it running well. I just changed the plug and did a compression test and all four cylinders were great shape. Thanks for all your help keeping my Lt running and in great shape.

This video came at the perfect time!!! I have a 1999 LT that’s been sitting for 7 years and my Dad can’t ride it anymore due to his knee. Gave it to me and I want to get her back on the road…ironically just before it was parked we went through the whole thing…rebuilt shift linkage, front damper, spiegler lines, resurfaced rotors, new pads, final drive serviced, new tires, valves adjusted, gas tank quick disconnects, new k&n air filter, new windshield, etc….can’t wait to get her back on the road.

I have a k1200lt, 99 model didnt do more than 50 kms for 3 years ran fine no temp issues for 1000kms but the now temperature rises a lot when the motorcycle is stopped or in traffic, because the fans do not turn on. I checked the fuses and they are fine. It could be the fan relay, hrlp from devon england

Hey Kirk, good to see you're still making videos. You were an amazing resource back when I had my 2000 KLT. As soon as I saw your clutch replacement series I put it up for sale though. Switched over to an FJR1300. So much easier to work on. Sometimes I miss my big blue couch though.

someone help me please, my first motorcycle I have a k1200 lt 2001, I'm working on it, I bought it from a person who left it parked for 9 years, I did everything necessary and now it's working, but when it starts it emits smoke with shades of blue or white, I don't know, and for a while when it's running it slows down with smoke, but it doesn't stop coming out, signs of wear on the piston rings are common on heavily used bikes, but it only has 18,000 miles, it could have been damaged by stay still for a long time?
@kirksmotorrad2 ай бұрын
Smoke is normal on startup if you left it on the side stand.

I would like to know what should be done to a bike that has sat like this one other than the gas tank/filter, air cleaner, etc. Please list out what you would do, Thanks.
@kirksmotorrad2 ай бұрын
I change ALL of the fluids and the brake lines. I inspect all of the rubber parts and the gas lines and remove the alarm if it has one. If you listen to what I did on this bike, it is a pretty good list.

What did you find with the front shock?
@kirksmotorrad2 ай бұрын
An excellent question! The shock was in great shape. That oil was from the blown out steering damper throwing oil at speed back onto it. I swapped both the shock and the spring though to freshen it up!

@@kirksmotorrad do you have a video on this specific setup? I’d really be curious of your thoughts. I’ve ran 880’s, 888’s, and now BT20’s. All have their pros and cons. We did 3 days in the rain on the blue ridge parkway in the rain with the BT20’s and actually enjoyed them. But cupping front and life are not the greatest.
