Hello, heading to Japan in few days and I won't be having my credit card with me as my card expired and the replacement won't be in time for me to collect before leaving for trip. I have my debit card and my wife has her credit card. I've read that a credit card in the drivers name is mandatory for renting? Can you confirm if this is the case? My wife unfortunately doesn't drive even though we have her credit card with us.

I currently have a rental, but i dont know how much is the balance left on my ETC card. How do i check that

If you're using a rental car, the ETC card balance might not be directly accessible to you since it's often linked to the rental company's account. I recommend contacting the rental company and asking them for the balance or transaction details. If it’s your own ETC card, you can check the balance using a nearby ETC card reader at convenience stores or service areas, or through the official ETC card issuer's website or app if they provide one. 😊

the endless confusing road signs and street markings (only in japanese) you need to have a minimum knowledge reading japanese characters. if you get into any traffic violation get ready to pay a minimum Y200,000. not worth the adventure unless you really need to get one.

1 day Rental costs us around 7,000 yen in total. Insurance is 1,650 yen per day.

This is a great video on how to rent a car in Japan! I have a few questions: 1)Are the tolls expensive in Japan? 2)How much did you pay for a full tank? Curious if the workers understand english. Planning to rent a car and drive up to Nagano from Fujikawaguchiko. Thanks, buddy!

Thanks! 1) Yes, it's relatively expensive. At times you can get a discount, like when you travel late at night (0 AM to 4 AM). For longer drives like from Fujikawaguchiko to Nagano, they could range from ¥2,000-¥5,000 depending on the route. We found a Toll calculator that can help. www2.kumagaku.ac.jp/teacher/~masden/tolls/ 2) We got a Yaris, so the full tank was around ¥10,000~. Unfortunately, some may not speak much English, but they usually know basic words like 'full' or 'cash/credit.' Safe travels and enjoy your trip Nagano!
