Thanks so much for this tutorial man. I had spent an hour on this frustrated and trying to search up tutorials. When i watched yours, it took me about 30-40 minutes after that to finally beat it. Being able to do one single action (i did extended hyperdash) on a visual cue (the arrow block between the spikes) helped so much. As opposed to like, doing two consecutive actions (jump then wavedash), cause thats harder to time, visually, with the arrow block between spikes thing.

Holy shit this is a really hard map. CotK took 2 hours, KoKoDoKo? and Gem Garden both took under 1 hour. These are the only grandmaster maps i have cleared in this lobby so far. This map took me 20 minutes and 200 deaths for the first dream block part and 30 minutes 450 deaths for the second dream block part. 50 minutes and have only done a third of the map. Damn.

How do you find these glitches? Is it just from playing a lot and discovering them or maybe checking old posts? It's kind of hard to find glitches in games that don't get a lot of attention.

This was used in the TAS but Alyosha didn't really write anything about it so it was unknown to the RTA runners how it worked, although a few semi-consistent setups were known. At one point while practicing I ran into it again so I put down a save state and experimented until I had figured out something that worked.

Not sure what you're referring to that's changed? The colors can be changed on the Gameboy logo screen when playing on GBC or GBA. bgb lets you select GBC mode for GB games so I've been playing on that because I like the color options. There's also SGB mode which I used on my older runs.

@@Unknown-ie7pj Yeah it definitely doesn't. Vertical speed is weird in DK Lands 2 and 3 and you continue accelerating downwards on the ground, so even if you could store upwards speed by getting a jump eaten by a roll it would quickly burn off. You can get jumps eaten by rolls though, if you try to jump within about 3 frames after pressing B, which is very annoying.

Just wondering if this is some kind of speedrunning technique but why do you bounce on the enemies when they're really close to you instead of bouncing on then a bit earlier?

Jumping is slower than running, but bouncing is the same speed, so hitting the enemies with uppercuts is better than jumping normally in most situations. Rolling through enemies is OK too and typically only loses a couple frames, and rolling is preferred when falling off descending platforms.
