Chicano means red children of the earth. It means natives. The reason why this culture came was because the natives were pist that the people of the south sold their lands. A true cholo is not really or necessarily a "gang member". Theres a big difference between cholos and gangbangers. A cholo is a descendant of the warriors and unconformists who resisted colonial domination and lived on the run and persecuted. A gangbanger is someone who has lost the notion of their identity and struggle and is just a senseless gang member without any social or political purpose nor identity At the end of the day all mexicans or Chicanos have a little cholo in them becasue we are all persecuted.
