I have a 03 Electra Glide and my primary cover has the gasket like yours but also another thin black rubber gasket that fits into the groove before the cover is put on. Are you omitting that gasket? It appears that you have the outer groove for it.

I agree with your review. I ride a lot, 15k to 20k every year. My current ride is an ‘02 Electra Glide. I’ve been through about half a dozen rear tires on this one since I’ve had it. My local shop talked me into running a Shinko rear tire earlier this year, to save some money and to get a faster turn around time. For the first, probably 1,500 miles or so, it was like the bike was skiing. When it was wet out, was down right terrifying. It was to the point I thought the shop messed something up during the tire change and service. After about 1,500 miles, it settled down and I didn’t have anymore problems. The bike handled just fine, including dragging the boards in the curves. I’m not going to say Shinko is a bad brand or makes bad tires, but I probably won’t run another set. Feeling unsafe on something that is already trying to kill you every time you get on it is not worth saving $80 to me.

Bro, buy your tires from a reputable motorcycle shop. Theyll back their product and make it right w you 9 times outta 10 if it happens shortly after installation. Online has no idea what youve done w the tire or when it was installd. Online youre stuck most of the time. I have these on a Heritage Softail and I was iffy about them bc the 777 is a cruiser tire. Its in the shop as I type getting them installed. We'll see how they do. Maybe try Shinko Long Haul model comes in Heavy Duty 6-ply vs 4-ply. I had them on a Softail Custom and theyre like having superbike tires. And lastly, what color is your FL? Is it factory? Its an interesting combination. I like it.

The center piece you removed is a stone deflector. Although the fender extender is a great idea (I installed one made by Wunderlich) the stone deflector may still prevent radiator damage by stones with minimal impact on air flow. Dont neglect cleaning your radiator every year or two. Lots of bugs smash up there even with fender extender.
