At 4:27 you cross an island across flatrock rapids. I notice a fire pit. Is that island crown land. Im assuming it's the island beside the rapids

I'm sure if you looked close enough you'd find holes that were dug on the banks for people to crap in, there are people who do it because it comes naturally to them.

Unfortunately you picked the wrong time and year to try out the lake/reservoir. This year there was maintenance required on the dam so the water level was reduced early, that coupled with hotter and wetter weather did cause a blue green algae bloom late in the year. The water typically is not like what you have encountered. It is a popular spot for fishing, swimming and other water sports. It is a reservoir built for flood control and protection of downstream fisheries, unlikely it would ever be returned river status. Before final judgement I would recommend a trip back next season in May, June or July, I think you may enjoy a paddle up either arm once past the cottages for a more natural experience.

@@Igor-dy1fc thanks for the information you provided! What do you think of my planned trip up the Conestogo river above the lake? Is it possible to paddle any distance up the river?
@xmattxfx21 күн бұрын
Hi there, the algorithm has sent this video to me! I live on this river just further north. In the spring it is possible to navigate further north. I have paddled downstream from concession 12 to the lake in early June. Later than that and you'll constantly be getting out of the kayak to navigate low water.

Interesting video, which I enjoyed. I've long been aware of the Newmarket Canal. Years ago I would occasionally take VIA's Super Continental (service ended in 1989) and you could see the remains of the canal from the train. The concrete bridge remains you showed carried the line of the Toronto Radial Railway. This was an electric trolley line that ran from Toronto to Richmond Hill, Newmarket, Aurora, Jackson's Point and Sutton. Richmond Hill - Sutton service ended in 1930, while Toronto - Richmond Hill service ended in 1948. It's interesting that in a few years time you'll once again be able to travel between Toronto and Richmond Hill by an electric railway - a subway.

I lived on Lundy's Lane from 1956 to 1965 . It wasn't paved then and was a short dead end that was the very edge of town . We hiked out along to were the Newmarket dump was ( it is a playing field now ) across the dam ( the top of it had large openings for the hoist equipment ) and then across the lock gate at the south end of Lock #3. The lock was silted almost to the top of the gate on the south side but the full depth on the north side . It wasn't very wide and if you fell in on the north side it would be a trick to get out . No one ever fell in to my knowledge . There were no hand rails and it was a great adventure for little kids to grow up around . Thanks for posting .
