I like the idea of batter tracking the ball, while the pitcher practices. I might use this in my next practice. Hopefully, they don't get the urge to actually hit the ball.

Disagree. That’s how I learned how to catch. My uncle would intentionally through straight piss misiles. I was terrified. Got hit with a few, and got over it. Wasn’t afraid of the ball anymore and learned if I didn’t want to get hit, that I had to put my glove up.

Come'on, the 'just make contact' coach isn't saying don't swing hard. He's saying it because the kid swings and misses A-LOT or never swings. It's a starting point for some less skilled players. You're a little outta context there.

I'm not sure I agreevwith the "stride and stop" drill. Batting has withinbit the element of timing, whe the striking of the ball is linked to the body moving forward to utilize the batter's weight moving forward, translating it into power. If you begin the forward movement only to abruptly stop that movement just prior to contacting the ball you reduce your power to only whst you can generate with your arms. That goes against everything batting coaches have advocated for decades. Remember Batters being successful depending on "timing" to marry enertia and bat speed at the precise instant of contacting the ball while the pitchers success depends on his ability to disrupt that timing....hence the change-up. Please accept this as my humble observation of only one small aspect of that multi-faceted and extremely complex sport we all love and know as baseball!~

Interesting but i was always in competition with myself. I worked on my footwork and fundamentals for being in the position when gunning runners down, of which i did and took it as an insult for rinner to even attempt it. After the fastest guy tried and i gunned him out by 3 strides it was usually the 1 and only attempt all game unfortunately. For a catcher, I always had same exact targets and most times im throwing from same spot except fielding a bunt or dribbler so 1st base was in same spot as was 2nd and 3rd so having catchers hit targets i dont agree with, a quarterback, of course, and if it takes any extra to make my catchers motivated to earn the spot and keep it than i already know what player im dealing with. The best blocking exercise i did just about every practice and should be done routinely by all catchers was having coach hit fungo bullets into dirt, warming up it would be known to left right or center and the velocity would be moderate then ramped up it would be rocket speed shots and not knowing to which side. That drill made me an excellent defensive catcher, there wasnt a pitcher that could throw one past me in dirt, it would be that rare high pitch that would get me nervous. This new method of catching with a knee down and catchers butt basically sitting on the bent knee and the ground i detest. It promotes lethargic catchers and it is invitation to steal all over that catcher also that technique will result in more past balls because only a bad low pitch hits directly in front of center of that relaxed catcher he will block by pure luck not skilled tecnique in sliding to cover low pitches, catcher needs to be on the balls of his feet with anyone on. I cringe watching mlb anymore because of this in the pros. Most catchers were not catchers their enture life and were turned into not a catcher but the ine wearing the gear and mitt but not a catcher

love the video, I do disagree with you about keeping mask on. You have better vision and there is zero% chance of mask sliding down an inch and now catcher is blindfolded. Great point on holding ball in the mitt, idk how many times I've seen mlb catchers leave ball just in mitt for tag. Over all excellent info, hoping to watch a throwing runner out at 2nd video of yours..thanks

There's an argument to say you can push off harder with your opposite leg and arm working together i.e. your left leg pushing off hard and driving through your body as you extend and reach with your right arm.. left leg and left arm together feels weird to most people and not as explosive. But the main reason we teach our players to use their right hand/arm is so they don't wear a ball to the face nor are they worried about that very real risk if they use their right... They certainly get a lot of baseballs hitting the back of their helmets, I'd hate for those to be hitting their faces or for them to distort themselves or shy away because they can see a ball heading for their face and maybe not go as hard or stretch out as much to reach for the bag...
