Nice! Thanks Paul. Also, if Renown Health has a Janko piano there too (just out-of-frame perhaps?) then please post a session on it as well! That would be great! (I hope your health is well Paul, and I can't wait to see what you might post here in another 6 years)

After reading the description, is the 5 row Janko the optimal number of rows? I have also seen one with 6, but I imagine that the more rows there are the heavier the weight of the keys would be, but I do not know. I too have small hands and it is important that I can play a 1 3 5 1 3 chord, both major and minor comfortably, and with this four row design, it looketh like that would be very uncomfortable or impossible. The 5, played with the middle finger of the right hand, would need to be in a row above that row that the first 3 is being played on. Are 6 better than five rows? Are more rows always better? 7, 8?

@@skiptop1000 After reading this, and seeing you like 5 rows, I would assume that you can play C E G C E and C Eb G C Eb chords with one hand on the 5 row? It is hard to picture in my head. In terms of the transposing a piece up as a reason for 6 rows seemeth silly to me (though I have never played this kind of keyboard) because it seemeth a man can go up to the right one row to put somehting up a semitone and also down to the right, to go up that same semitone, and because it is isomorphic, the fingerings would be the same. I cetainly get that more rows would lead to more disorientation, which is why something like the Lumatone is unappealing, that and the unecessarily cockeyed scale arrangement.

The standard keyboard is flawed yet evolution seems prevented because manufacturers stick with it. I cantthink of a solution but seeing keyboards like this prove there is definitely a better way to accommodate the human hand in terms of producing music.

What are the advantages of this keyboard? Possibility of transposition? Back in the 70s, I made a semitone switch (-4...+4) in my electronic organ (Weltmeister, made in East Germany) and played in a convenient key, including notes for wind instruments (in B...in Eb) In those years, I read a description of the Herald three-row keyboard, but I didn’t want to play on the Herald or Janko.

@@skiptop1000 Thank you, I understand your idea. But learning to play the Janko keyboard requires forgetting all the usual motoric reflexes and mastering new ones. Like moving from a keyboard accordion to a buttons accordion. This may be acceptable for someone, but I'm more comfortable using a traditional keyboard. By the way, I almost do not use a mouse when working at a computer. I prefer hotkey combinations. Especially when working with Excel spreadsheets, where I "play chords" with both hands. Thanks for this demo.

I think that the quickest way to the general adoption of this keyboard would be to create a 7-octave MIDI controller, so it can be used to play any modern electronic keyboard! Once people have tried it, things will snowball from there.

Yeah, the layout is super convenient for transposing, but can you still feel your way around on that without having to look at it if theres no raised black keys in a repeating pattern like on a regular keyboard? Looks like sight reading on that thing would be hell.
@skiptop1000
@skiptop1000 Жыл бұрын
dustinholland6700 - "Hell" is a pretty strong word, but your observation is essentially correct. On the keyboard in this video, the black keys all have a rounded groove down the middle. This turned out to be insufficient. You can see my more recent keyboard here: daskin.com/ The tactile orientation system is explained in detail here: image-ppubs.uspto.gov/dirsearch-public/print/downloadPdf/5515763 I have found that this system works very well.
