COuld you use this product and cut it to the correct width for a between the studs as a vapor barrier and place fiberglass, rock wool insulation on top ??? The ceiling of my house has 2 by 4 with standard 16 inch centers. That way the vapor barrier will be facing inside the living quarters. Thanks

I need a help please. I have colder room in my house and I know that it leaks energy because I think it has thermal bridge on its corner. The room is located in the north direction of the apartment. If I installed such insulation, could it form Mould between the wall and this insulation in this corner while we will not be able to see it? Thx in advance
@InsulationstopRadiantBarrier11 ай бұрын
Always tough to answer questions about moisture as it's so specific to your building and local climate. If it "leaks" then moisture can/is moving through. Whether it would get trapped and create mold we cannot answer. We can say the insulation does not promote the growth of mold, a positive feature of foil insulation products. Maybe air seal the area 1st then insulate from there?

Current code is R12 where I live and I think that is too low! Where is the mastic sealing of the seams and joints. This feel like only a “code” install which is only the minimum requirement and not the state of the art…full building science. Do better.
@InsulationstopRadiantBarrier11 ай бұрын
Hello, this video was taken in Los Angeles, CA. At the time, this was the most stringent code for HVAC assemblies at an R8 install. Only NY and CA required the R8. Agreed that code is only a "minimum requirement". We supplied only the insulation not the HVAC ducting, FYI. Appreciate the comment.
@isaacbroyles354311 ай бұрын
I'm not sure, as I can't get a good look at it but that may be duct pieces that have a rubber flange inside that seals when two pieces are put together. Again I don't know that for sure, but it may be a possibility.

@newstart49 Жыл бұрын
This is fraud in my opinion. You do not have sunlight in your attic, just UV and UB invisible rays. This experiment is obviously comparing direct heat from a source (Heat lamp), not invisible heat from waves (Radiant). The foil reflects the light.

um... so how much sunlight am i getting in my attic or walls? none? so should i put reflective barrier on the roof? edit: try putting a lid on it...

Can you drywall over it?
@InsulationstopRadiantBarrier Жыл бұрын
Yes you can. You do want to provide the necessary 3/4" airspace between insulation and drywall. This can be accomplished by using 1" (actual 3/4") furring available anywhere locally.

I recently insulated my detached garage flat roof by putting 150mm of rockwool insulation sandwiched between the roof and 12mm plasterboard. I dont want to take that all down to apply this as the forst layer. So my question is, can i add this as a layer after the plasterboard? Will it still be effective?
@InsulationstopRadiantBarrier Жыл бұрын
If understanding correctly you want to add a radiant barrier to the face (exposed side) of the plasterboard. This will reduce radiant heat gain in the garage if there is any that makes it through the roof system. Critical to not cover the radiant barrier, the exposed side needs to have an airspace of 3/4" or greater to be effective in this assembly. Radiant barriers have high reflectivity and low emissivity. In terms of insulation, a material with low emissivity would tend to hold onto heat more effectively because it emits less thermal radiation.

This test represents an attic without a roof? How much infared penatrates a roof?
@nicksemon5943 Жыл бұрын
Unsure about the infrared but a practical explanation for heat transfer would be comparing the roof to a sponge. The sponge will continue to heat up and then pass this heat (via radiation and/or conduction) to the cooler interior surfaces below the roof line until the heat source subsides (typically night fall) and equilibrium is met. The cycle repeats the next day.

I would just throw that behind the studs and that’s it it’ll keep the heat in unless you do between every single joist above it’s useless

I've only seen videos using the single foil layer in attics, and a lot of talk about radiant vs. conductive heat, and air gap. No explanation on the choice of material in this video. Whether a basement or an attic, i assume the goal is he same: In the winter keep the warmth in and tne cold out. The opposite in summer. So why different products?

A glaring issue I see here is that with any sort of vapor barrier or radiant barrier, both inside or outside of the wall, you should start the wrap layer at the bottom and all layers above it should overlap it 3" to 6" depending on local codes. By doing it top down you create a seam for potential moisture and condensation to drop into and collect. So I consider this to be improper! So much bad information on KZbin unfortunately.

I have a question - I am insulating a wood shed built from a kit. I bought the one that has a white side and the aluminum side (Reflective foam core 1/4 inch insulation barrier roll). Do I face the aluminum side outwards and the white side facing inwards. It is very hot where I live 100+ for many days a year and I want to stop everything I have stored from getting too hot. Am I doing it correctly?
