What is this supposed to do? Make heating/cooling more effective?

I'm using reflective wrap like that in my home, but I'm not using it for the ductwork because the labor of wrapping it around small, round ductwork buried in blown-in insulation (as opposed to large, rectangular ones) is too much trouble. Instead, I'm buying similar flexible ductwork, removing the internal spiral-steel wire, and placing it over my existing ductwork. But that's clumsy and wasteful. You might want to look into making and selling reflective wrap that is sized for round residential ductwork. Installation could make easier by supply it with open steel hoops for holding the reflective foil in place. Users could either regard the hoop as sufficient or, with the hoop holding the foil in place, add aluminum tape to fully seal the wrapping. The result would be additional duct insulation that's much easier to install than the typical four-foot-wide reflective foil. And there should be a huge market for such a product.

Michael W. Perry how did it work out? Can I clarify? Did you re-wrap your existing ducts with the outer portion (insulation plus reflective coating) of what you bought?

Current code is R12 where I live and I think that is too low! Where is the mastic sealing of the seams and joints. This feel like only a “code” install which is only the minimum requirement and not the state of the art…full building science. Do better.

Hello, this video was taken in Los Angeles, CA. At the time, this was the most stringent code for HVAC assemblies at an R8 install. Only NY and CA required the R8. Agreed that code is only a "minimum requirement". We supplied only the insulation not the HVAC ducting, FYI. Appreciate the comment.

I'm not sure, as I can't get a good look at it but that may be duct pieces that have a rubber flange inside that seals when two pieces are put together. Again I don't know that for sure, but it may be a possibility.

Whoa! 1:09 Is this installed in some 3rd world country where safety is a non issue? If you put out an informational product video, I'd suggest hiring proper contractors.

I'd suggest wondering what that dude could tie off to, noting a dyna-brake adds a good 5 feet to the safety harness lanyard in event of a fall. The guys knees would be through the concrete before final stop. There's people that make the world turn, and then there's you. Enjoy your soy latte.

Not our stuff Roy, this specific product is rated for exterior use. There ARE MANY sub-standard products offered online unfortunately and MOST are not made in the United States.
