the key for shops refilling from warehouses is that, you cant have them overwhelmed, you need at least 1 extra worker to do restocking or it wont pull. ether use a larger mall then you need and scale down your workers, or have redundant shopping built in.

What we actually need is a specific fuel tanker helicopter, or an option to configure a fire-fighting helicopter to this purpose
@SilentSnoo7 ай бұрын
The biggest advantages of airplanes over helicopters is the higher speeds and the much better fuel economies. The Fo27 for instance has a little under twice the throughput of the Mi-6, but it uses less than 1/36th as much fuel. The Mi-10 cargo helicopter is the most fuel efficient cargo helicopter (with full loads), but it is only 3 times as fuel efficient as the Mi-6 and with less than half of the throughput. 9:45 Glad to see the airlift method I shared is gaining traction, but you don't need two spaces for vehicles; one at each end will do. The trick is to specify in the helicopter's line to only load vehicles/containers with fuel or with nothing in them depending on where the fuel is going. You can also attach the space for vehicles to the airplane cargo terminal and use its airplane pads to land helicopters if you don't want to spend the time/money/resources building an additional pad. I would also recommend airlifting construction equipment like bulldozers, excavators, road cranes, etc. to the site and putting them in a free CO, so that helicopters do not need to make multiple trips carrying them from the HCO to each construction site. You can also build a small warehouse and have a helicopter make one trip full of goods so a small truck can take tiny amounts required to each site instead of having helicopters make several trips with tiny partial loads. Finally, be careful with forcing workers off into terminals, as aircraft stations require heating. You can get around this by linking the terminal/heliport to a nearby free bus station to make them wait there instead.

Hey Silent Shadow , thanks for your comment. Your research is really a good addition to the community! _The biggest advantages of airplanes over helicopters is the higher speeds and the much better fuel economies._ Not for small airplanes. The Fokker is an outlier. Because we have time here, let's go into details. We can invent a fuel efficacy factor: (Speed / Engine power) * Cargo. Bigger number = better. Fo27: 450km/h / 3250KW * 52 Workers = 7.2 Mi-6: 280km/h / 8090KW * 47 Workers = 1.6 Mi-8: 225km/h / 1120KW * 22 Workers = 4,4 So the Fokker is 4.4x more efficient than MI-6 and 1.6x better than Mi-8. When it comes to Cargo (Steel): Fo27: 450m/h / 3250KW * 4,70t = 0,65 Mi-10: 305m/h / 8200KW * 13,00t = 0,48 Here the Fokker is also more efficient (1.35x). All other small planes are worse than helis. _9:45__ Glad to see the airlift method I shared is gaining traction, but you don't need two spaces for vehicles [...]_ Again, thanks to you :). But I disagree: There are many reasons why two storages with one-way connections are in practice way more suitable. _would also recommend airlifting construction equipment like bulldozers, excavators, road cranes, etc. to the site and putting them in a free CO, so that helicopters do not need to make multiple trips carrying them from the HCO to each construction site. @@ddennisshow "Not for small airplanes. The Fokker is an outlier. Because we have time here, let's go into details. We can invent a fuel efficacy factor:" This assumes that the fuel consumption rates for airplanes and helicopters are the same for a given engine size, but they are not (watch the fuel dials for the L-410 UPV-e and the Mi-8; the have the same engine power rating, but the Mi-8 uses far more fuel). For a given power rating, helicopter engines consume ~4 times as much fuel as airplane engines at cruising speed, and this skews the stats so that all airplanes are much more fuel efficient than the most fuel efficient helicopter (with cargo or passengers). Compared to the most fuel efficient helicopter, the Tu-144 is over 3.5 times as fuel efficient, other large passenger planes are ~4.7 to ~7 times as fuel efficient, most tiny airplanes are ~7 to ~20 as fuel efficient, and large cargo airplanes are ~12.7 to ~59 as fuel efficient. The Fo27 gets about 646.25 t-m/L for cargo, the AN-14 gets about 471.70 t-m/L, and the C-172 gets about 1,408.20 t-m/L. The Mi-10 cargo variant gets 57.617 t-m/L, the S62 gets 30.662 t-m/L, and the Mi-6 only gets 17.734 t-m/L. Helicopters just cannot compete on fuel economy. "But I disagree: There are many reasons why two storages with one-way connections are in practice way more suitable." How so? They just seem to me like twice the cost/effort for no appreciable gain.
@ddennisshow7 ай бұрын
@SilentSnoo _Helicopters just cannot compete on fuel economy._ Ok :). I assumed it works the same way as fuel consumption of road vehicles. _How so? They just seem to me like twice the cost/effort for no appreciable gain._ Imagine you have a running setup with ~10 Trucks.With 1 storage you cannot: - It is easier to understand and set up - See how many trucks are full or empty - Move are full/empty vehicles at once to a depot
@SilentSnoo7 ай бұрын
@@ddennisshow I'm not sure I would be running 10 fuel trucks through this system (do you really need that much fuel at the other end?), but even then you would only need 3 free depots to process them all, and the "fuel" resource overlay would quickly tell you which trucks still have fuel if you mixed them up.

the real problem with airports it isnt very much for small communities, because they are usually forced to be small bc of terrain, airport covers too much valuable area + costs. However, I very much like the idea of using airplanes for starter cities for small quantities of valuable resources (chemicals, components and electronics) and import of foreing workers seems right as well.

Thank you for your efforts. If I always have to build something first in order to be able to unload the planes, then it makes no sense for a pure island start. I also have to think about other uses. Where I need resources, I also need people. And you can't fly aggregates and liquids either. Somehow helicopters seem to make more sense to me - a pure price/performance calculation then. But it's exciting to think about it ... Greeting :)

Hi Frankie, > If I always have to build something first in order to be able to unload the planes, then it makes no sense for a pure island start. In the center of the map, the speed really pays off! 2-3 Fokker 27 were enough to provide a constant flow. In the end, everybody can pick and choose :).

Interesting ideas, had not considered using mud airports to support construction. Have considered (but not tested) using a small airfield to deliver resources, e.g. fabric, mech & electro components and plastic, to remote vehicle repair stations. Another possibility would be delivering chemicals for water treatment in remote communities. Agree, with final statement, their use had has plenty of potential.

That collapsed school was ... dark. I think I will build smaller schools and pre schools apart from each other from now on. Also one thing I would like W&R to borrow from Cities Skylines is to have earthquakes strike over wide, even unpopulated area, so damage isnt localised, but still over wide area, potentially necessitating reconstruction of buildings over whole republic

It has to be said, that under normal circumstances you have an earthquake between 3 and 6. Collapsing buildings, a rather rare. But we all know WR:SR :) > earthquakes strike over wide, even unpopulated area, I think, in starting republics, you will have many insignificant earthquakes and late game way too much action. ddennisshow there is another method to solve this challenge (I know it works because I have tried to complete the game without building a town. I ran out of foreign workers, but I had a Customs House so I did not research the "build a Custom's House" option, nor build a town). PRO: use foreign workers to build Tech U, Comm HQ, and fire station (you will need power). Use foreign workers to conduct research until you can build a Custom House. Build Custom House on Soviet border and then play using "normal" realistic play With foreign workers you do not need anything required for workers - no housing; water; heat; food; clothing; hospital; etc. Your population is zero - so Happiness and Loyalty are not important. CON: because you are using foreign workers for research - this method will take game decades (20 or more game years) to complete the research required to build the Custom House Interested to see how you approach this problem.
