WOW!! I'm really impressed with this zoo! We don't have anything even close to that type of architecture in a zoo in the United States! I'm jealous, LOL!

Looks like an amazing space. Also to be able to quietly observe from the viewing areas. Its interesting that even though most gorillas in zoos were born in captivity but still have the innate wish to climb. Must have been amazing to watch.

It was amazing. They were so high up that you could hardly see them without the zoom. Especially, the youngster loved to climb as high as he could.

Thanks for the tour! Just to clarify: there are 3 total troops? Family Troop, Silverback Troop, and Blackback Troop?
@MSVRVisualTravel11 ай бұрын
Yep, that's it. There is also Howletts Wildlife Park & Conservation not far from Port Lymphe. Both are part of the Aspinall Foundation which boasts a remarkable history of involvement with western lowland gorillas. The initial gorilla birth occurred in Port Lympne in 1975, and since then, there have been 129 births-Aspinall Foundation houses the world's largest population of captive gorillas, with approximately 70 residing at Howletts and Port Lympne together.

@@MSVRVisualTravel that’s incredible! Thank you for that background info! A couple of additional questions, if you don’t mind. The gorillas they re-wild, are they the ones at Port Lympne or Howletts? Where is Luango?
@MSVRVisualTravel11 ай бұрын
I believe it's both Port Lympne and Howletts and the last time was I think Sep 2021. Luango is at Port Lympne. I filmed him about 3 years ago. If you haven't seen the playlist, this is both Port Lympne and Howletts Gorillas. kzbin.info/aero/PLXC1aShJSBiXGnCCg9pgVn9s64IZhajJw&si=9zPh0S31yqPqrGOP. Hope that helps :-)

Do you think maybe this will be Lope’s new home? That maybe they will keep him at this zoo and just bring in a female for him? Or is he required to go to a bachelor group before he getsamate, simulating how his life would be out in the wild.
@MSVRVisualTravel Жыл бұрын
At the moments is all a lot of guessing and just rumours. I think that it might be the new Orangutan enclosure. As that was always plan before anything else. Maybe it's both a new Gorilla habitat and Orangutans next to each other. That would be something. If it would be a gorilla habitat then it would highly likely be for Oumbi's troop. The rumours are that Lope is going to France, but I still got some hope that the rumours are wrong and maybe he stays in his bachelor pad and Twycross Zoo ads other bachelors, but that's just wishful thinking. Yes he would definitely have to learn first of a bachelor troop before he would get his own family.

These bears have absolutely sober minds like the ones of human beings. You can see that when they hold such a fish down with one paw, flaying the skin with the muzzle. It would mean complete nonsense to say that such a mammal acts unconsciously / unintentionally, automatically obeying whatever instincts. The instinct such an animal here will be feeling will mainly be hunger, just like we, ourselves, know it. Apart from that, more general, adaptable algorithms of thinking will be applied, also just like with us: "If you are hungry, search for some food", "fish are food", "fish can be found in rivers", "if you wanna eat something that has a covering, get rid of the latter first", "getting rid of a covering is easier if you can pull at such an object", "you can pull at what you're holding down", "holding down an object so you can pull at it works well if one point of such an object is fixed". Only as a result of such considerations will the bear arrive at "if you wanna flay a fish, hold its body down with one paw", rather than in the sense of a process that would be hard-wired in the animal's brain.
