Fondest memories of these cups was at a country club pool, and their “lunch” area was over the life guard break area. Every time I see the cups with this design on it I get a flashback to those days of being so care free

very informative, thanks for your hard work in researching Marcel Breuer. this just helps fill in a bit more of the Bauhaus mystique. I feel that in some ways we know quite a bit and yet so little, no thanks to the poor influence in Germany at that time. The most intriguing thing about this era was the explosion of modernism , an important part in the family of art. My wife and I have found the people around the Bauhaus most fascinating. I do not enjoy all of Marcel's work but respect his efforts and contributions. Graham

I will be using this for a vinyl plotter, but I have noticed even with 70 steps it still leaves tiny steps when zoomed in - this will be a pain when cutting. How can I get a complete smooth line without steps?

Maybe try tracing it with the pen tool. I used to work with a vinyl printer/cutter and that’s what I did (although it takes a lot more time). Sorry I don’t have a more simple solution!

Reminds me of a friend who was half bald by mid twenties would always wear a hat. Imagine losing your hair while accepting who you are and not be that guy who shaves it all off or wears a hat everywhere. Here is the best part. Instead of having the mindset of out of sight out of mind and fogetaboutit, by embracing it, steps can be taken to potentially reverse the condition by changing our lifestyle. let's gooo.

Hi John. Loved this overview of the Bauhaus. I was especially interested in the White city in Tel Aviv., I had no idea of its existence so many thanks for bringing it to my attention. One slight criticism of your beginners guide to the Bauhaus I have Is the lack of any mention of its influence in the field of typography. László Moholy-Nagy, Herbert Bayer, and Joost Schmidt were all significant in promoting the use of san-seraph faces in their work at the Bauhaus. As I'm sure you know the influence of their work on other contemporary typographers such as Jan Tschichold was significant. Tschichold's subsequent work, including the creation of, for example, the typefaces Transit and Saskia had, and continues to have, a huge influence on fledgling typographers to this day. Given this, I do feel you might have mentioned the Bauhaus's influence in shaping the contemporary typography of the period. Having said that, the omission of typography in your Bauhaus guide was a very minor flaw in what was an otherwise exceptional piece of work. I will now be subscribing to your site and look forward to your future video's. Many thanks from one grey- haired old designer to one of a much younger vintage! Best wishes and keep up the good work.

Hello Nigel, I so appreciate you taking the time to comment, and greatly appreciate your feedback. I absolutely should have dove into their influence on type. @@bctld Hi John. I know I mentioned that I live in the UK but I didn't tell you that I live in Surrey, which is a county on the western outskirts of London. I am aan have been a member of the National Trust for years. This is, and again please skip this if you already know it, a charity that looks after, and opens to the public a HUGE number of historic properties throughout the entire UK. I am very lucky. to have near me a House called The Holmwood. It was built by a visionary designer in the interwar years and is a stunning example of modernist architecture. It's only open for 6 months of each year and even then only on Friday's and Saturdays. I have managed to get a ticket to visit it in a few weeks time (They're as rare as Rocking Horse Poo) so to say I am excited is a massive understatement. I have attached a few links to some websites showing the Holmwood. Do Take a look at them if you get the chance John as I would be interested in your opinions of the property. www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/surrey/the-homewood www.culturalwednesday.co.uk/the-homewood/ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Homewood# (go to the photo gallery for some great images of the house)

@adamrou123456 ай бұрын
@bctld it was a cool campus with low height buildings made of cement, glass and wood. It was an early 1970's build so Gropius himself had nothing to do with it. I'm pretty sure he was dead by the time they got the contract. The style was bordering on brutalist but it was quite striking as far as design goes and had a really cool layout with lots of open spaces that would force your to interact with other students in between classes and had cement breezeways and bridges between buildings which were great until they started collapsing. It did blend really well with the area and had a fantastic location in the national seashore. Pretty sure it is the only school in America completely inside of a national park and I have no idea how the district got the permission to build a 70+ acre campus on federally owned/ protected land. Unfortunately the quality of construction wasn't the best so by the time I went there in the late 2000's it was getting pretty rough. You could tell that at one point it was really nice though. It is currently being redone by Flansburgh. It is called Nauset Regional Highschool if you were curious. Great video though Gropius doesn't get the notoriety he deserves.

Well.... none of these can hold a candle to Rick Valicenti's Bronzo, but I guess they'll do ^_^ Funny how Vignelli got it on with Emigre in his later years, almost conceding the point that type doesn't have to be a craft, and can also be expressive. Still, good luck trying to layout a corporate brochure using Oakland. I'm just thankful you didn't once drop the term "humanistic" to describe any of the typefaces.
