The reason why light can't escape a black hole is because the gravity therein is faster than the speed of light. In other words, light travels at roughly a billion miles an hour therefore the gravity in a black hole has to be at least a billion miles an hour. Note: gravity on earth is measured at 120 mph. The sun, approximately 60,000mph. But in a black hole it must be at least the speed of light in order for light not to escape. Nothing can handle that sort of gravity. Indeed, anything that "falls into" a black hole will immediately be ripped apart by the gravity. So what's in a black hole? Destroyed celestial bodies. Essentially gas. And bent space time. And I mean contorted, twisted...utter chaos.

If that lift is going up at a constant velocity and you shine that light beam , will it also bend? If it doesn't , will that mean the light beam has a component of velocity in the upwards direction as it leaves the light source?

In this example the sun is big and the planet is big and close to each other obviously it can make a bend - but in reality the sun is very small and like a dot compared to the distance of the planet - how in the hell can it make a bend and attract the 8 planets.

What exactly is bending if the space is empty. The gravity as kind of force is real acting on the objects, but the bending of the space is not since there is nothing to be bent. Are we missing something here?
