We spent an hour choosing our soapstone shade in the showroom, but now disappointingly finding out the installed sealed product will be 20 times darker. At the showroom they told use they would apply a wax. But now they are saying they are going to apply an unnamed "permanent" sealer. We got a sample and it's super dark, not at all what I expected. Do they do this to make matching different tops (kitchen countertop and island countertop) easier with fewer complaints? Which option darkens the least and highlights the grain the most?

The stone is still a dull honed finish. However the wax has a small amount of shine. I would recommend testing a small area to see the results. Sometimes even under the countertops like on a island or such. The real purpose of the wax is to darken the stone like the oil does. However, the wax last longer.

Will the wax bring back a shine or will it stay dull.

500 degree boiling water?! Water would vaporize at that temp. 212 is the temp water boils...

Is that the same thing you use to mark steel, or for sharpening blades?

Prob with the wax is that it marks and smudges easy

is it possible for soapstone to be white or light in color?

I use coconut oil and it works amazing.

Just use car wax, no problemo.
