I was born in puerto plata, raised in the USA. The ports are out of control. It hurts the resorts, because you only get visitors that don’t want to spend money or time. Better to build resorts. This is why punta Cana is booming. Puerto plata is in a bubble it’s being over developed and the prices are too high. Very unsustainable. Will really hurt the locals since most work at resorts. You can tell by the emptied airports and beaches. More resorts needed, higher quality not more ports.

If you’re Dominican especially living in the US or a descendent, please please invest in DR. Don’t let other people, especially corporations from other countries who aren’t going to take care of DR buy up all the land only to abandon it letting it sit as an empty timeshare or to leave it to diie as an empty lot. If the government is going to let randos buy up the land, we need to at least be the majority shareholders. I say this out of love. Con mucho cariño from NYC!😅
