Darren i know you have owned an IC-7610. Curious how you would compare it with the new Flex 8600? I had the 6500 and a few 6400’s, then went to the 7610 after several issues with Flex. Curious of your thoughts of the 2. Noise abatement? I run mostly remote and have used SmartSDR iOS and now SDRControl with the icom. Has the 8600 got any new features in the app over the 6000 series?

I use SS 30 on ALL ground connections. I would also have more copper strap on the tower legs with one more clamp on each.
@donausmus42814 күн бұрын
I use a nitrile glove with a cotton jersey glove over it. Works great. This is the way the tower pros do it. Also, always fill gaps like one under the rotator with a SS washer sandwiched in there.

@@DarrenN4VFR I have a FT-991A radio with a mAT-1500PRO tuner. the 991A Tun/Lin jack is already in use for the tuner so no place to connect a Band Data cable so suppose I'll have to rely on Radio Sense (RF Sense) for band selection and the RCA from the Tuner to Amp for PTT. Also running out of USB ports on the PC will the SDR and radio etc. Good thing there are multi-port USB Hubs :)

My first Flex. Like I mentioned, it's primarily for my Remote HF and it works well. I still will keep my Anan for when I'm local. The Flex transmit signal is clean so I'm not too worried about the pure signal aspects of it, but it would be nice though.

Hi Darren, another nice video! I can hear the powerline noise that you have at your home QTH. If you haven't already, try moving the WNB slider up to around 80 or 90 to see if it helps reduce it some. I had a problem here ant it reduced it nearly 10 dB. They must have fixed whatever it was, so I don't really have that issue anymore. Also check your AGC-T control. Flex defaults it to waaay to big a number if you have a noisy environment. I find that on the upper bands it needs to be around 33 and on the lower bands it needs to be somewhere around 24. You will have to see what it needs to be at your place depending on time of day, band, solar or atmospheric conditions, etc etc. 73, Len, KD0RC
@DarrenN4VFR14 күн бұрын
Len, I adjusted the WNB to around 89. Still have the powerline noise, didn't bring it down. Is there a way to enable the AGC-T for the iPad IOS SmartSDR? I've looked everywhere and didn't see that adjustment. Maybe only on the Windows version.
@KD0RC14 күн бұрын
@@DarrenN4VFR On your video at 8:31, the pop-up shows MED and a slider. That is the AGC-T. As I suspected, it is all the way up and needs to be reduced until there is a noticeable drop in the noise. I hope that helps! 73, Len
@DarrenN4VFR14 күн бұрын
@@KD0RC Len, yes... That's the AGC-Medium. You are right, when I move the slider to the Left, it tightens up the gain so I only can pick up stronger signals.

Great information (and great boots, too! 😄). I currently have a 6700 that works perfectly, and not yet ready to "upgrade" unless I can do a good trade-in deal or sell outright. A used 670 brings $4400 wile a new 8600 is ~$500 more... a bargain of sorts, to be certain.
@DarrenN4VFR14 күн бұрын
My first Flex. If it still satisfies you, I would just save the money for any future updates. I don't even use all the slices and just should of gotten a 8400 instead. Thanks for watching, I really like my Flex is far superior than using the Icom IC7610 with the RSBA1 Software which uses a lot of internet bandwidth and buffers at times. 73

Both great amps. The reason I will take the LUX all day is if there is a problem with these amps one has to go to Bulgaria and hope it gets there. May take 3-4 months to get it back from halfway around the world. The LUX fails you send it to Florida and you get it back in 10 days or less. These to guys Kenny and angel are the best in what they build and customer service. If RF kit was US based I would buy one in a heartbeat. There both great amps.
