I had to convert mine to D-power - I grew tired of the low-altitude, nail-biting flights on Cs. It's a recommended conversion, IMHO. Congratulations on yours!

Hey Estes Company , start making 3 feet flying Scale Nazi German V2 missile right now because lots of model rocketry owners or new owners demand it plus 3 feet Scale Saturn V rocket and flying scale rockets because very popular all time !!!! We are waiting for Estes Company for very popular flying scale rockets of NASA and Nazi 3 feet scale Germany V2 missile . I brought Estes 3 feet scale Nazi German V2 missile kit from hobby store in Madison , Wisconsin then build it very carefully and paint . I’m member of flying rocketry club til graduation in 1976 . My Scale German V2 rocket became very popular to our school students and teachers cheered it as WSD official want me give my famous rocket to school museum but I told official about scale Nazi German V2 destroyed due engine disfire as shut down then missile turn , dive but engine restart itself caused it too fast dive into ground as destroyed it long years ago . Today I’m 63 years old man now as unhappy since years of looking for Estes 3 feet flying scale Nazi German V2 missile even 3 feet scale Saturn V rocket as unsuccessful but our car getting old until get other then try attempt looking for Nazi German rocket again. Estes Company had no respect to all of flying rocketry modelers and myself wanted flying scale rockets badly . Many model kits companies start remaking popular models kits again as older model kit builders demand it . If I found scale Nazi German missile V2 and Saturn V rocket then build em and give it to WSD official for museum plus couple of flying rockets and I’ll set launch pad up and build fake 12 volt auto battery with sticker from real old battery . I’ll be retired from flying rocketry then build model kits and radio control sailplane , fishing , art work , ride bike and few till my life ends. Still waiting for Estes Company remaking scale rockets and flying em . I love Estes Company are wonderful flying rocketry for kids to older adults ! My husband Patrick type on my iPad. My husband Pat still very patience till get truck then go and looking for it as I’m worried about my husband. Please making scale rockets and sent to hobby stores in nationwide . Thanks

I am about to finish my own. Got it from a friend of mine who never finished it and have replaced the 4 stroke Motors with E-Flite power 60's. Significant difference in flying weight. 18.7 V 5000 mAh Batteries. Hope to maiden it in the next few Days. Weather dependent.

Great flight of a beautiful bird. Was the CG as stated in the manual? Did you put any offset or down thrust in the motors? Very nice!!!

Nice video...FWIW...I'd have used a D12-5 as the unmodified model uses a C6-3. A 5 second delay is optimal for your modification using the D Engine. You are doubling the Impulse, from C6 to D12, and you are achieving a higher altitude as a result. But your recovery deployment is happening too early, during the coast phase of the ascent, and that early deployment is retarding the achievement of attaining the highest altitude....which defeats the purpose of powering that model with a D engine in the first place. Ideally the recovery deployment happens at the instant that the rocket peaks at apogee and is traveling at zero velocity. When the rocket is ascending, and, if the recovery deployment happens too early, then you stand the risk of the shock cord zippering the skin. Likewise when it is descending and if the recovery deployment happens too late, as the rocket has picked up velocity while accelerating toward terra firma, then you also stand the risk of the shock cord zippering the skin. When doubling the impulse you also need to consider increasing the recovery deployment delay time...unless you are modifying an extremely and notoriously under powered model like the Estes Kit #1284 Space Shuttle to fly using a D12-3 instead of the C6-3. Yes there are exceptions. But the Estes Mercury Redstone is not one of them.

Do I remember correctly that the old mercury redstone from the 70s was smaller?

I built the Estes Redstone 40 years ago. I though the more powerful engine you could put in it was around a C6-5. Of course that was before the D series came out.

I need Estes 3 ft tall Scale German Nazi V2 missile very badly because I been find that rocket long time because my old school planning set museum up for older stuff and older printer machine , rocket launcher with rockets as school official asked me about my scale German rocket . I told her about my German rocker was destroyed by crashed due engine failure . I was stunned myself then looking for German rocket at every hobby stores but no luck as I still never gave up until get 3 ft scale German Nazi V2 missile then built it and Saturn V rocket and couple of rockets from old plans by rocketry club members . School official need me set launcher with control/safety key & fake battery by myself built it , couple of rockets and German Nazi V2 and Saturn V will display in school museum because I was member of rocketry club but best skilled modeler by late teacher know it . One of members of rocketry club told me " you can build scale Saturn V rocket , launch it like true flying well than some members failed it because Scale Saturn V rockets crashed after launched but unable flying higher . " " how you do that with 3 ft rocket fly higher so well couple of times as crazy flights till last flight were beautiful perfect ! " I told member about balance help rocket as I had worked on till perfect balance then paint light only not much also plastic are thin as gotten be careful with it as light glue & sanding , keep straight while glue set hold two fins then two fin again till four fins look good . I tie string to rocket then turn it around as see rocket fly straight . then paint light as I can because I don't want heavy weight . I told member about members failed with Saturn V rockets and other scale rockets failed . Scale rockets are very advanced for skilled modeler like me . Member understand it . If I found Estes German Nazi then built it , Saturn V rocket and couple of rockets from plans from members as teacher keep them in filling box as safekeeping until rockets with launcher pad and other are display in school museum then I were retirement from building rockets then back no flying models build & artist working .
