My recommendation is to use HAL_GPIO_TogglePin function if you want to blink LED because it makes code cleaner and easier to read.

What all are you adding to development boards? I usually used to make development boards with open connections to all ports as well as open interfacing headers to LEDs, switches, LCD etc so that you can use F-F jumper wires and make any connections any way we want according to codes

In Thonny you can go to "Run" - "Configure Interpreter" and click on the blue words "Install or Update MicroPython", from there you can get the correct ufc file. I found out the hard way.
