Air blaster quality with your mouth 🤣🤣 that cracked me up! I'm so tempted to try handmade pastels but I'm so wary. Even touching chalky things gives me the heebies. I LOVE the blendyness of them though

I’m not professionally trained but still struggle with not aiming for perfect and just enjoying the process. I like to dabble in everything, sewing, die cutting/stamping, journal making and watercolour has been my most recent things. I like to just see what I’m in the mood for.

I’m not professionally trained either and if I was I’d probably find it harder to loosen up but who knows! It depends on the teacher I guess 😄 It’s nice that you have loads of creative outlets. I really love making my journals at the moment so that’s another one for me. I’ve also enjoyed needle felting in the past but I haven’t gone back to that for ages! Other than my art I really enjoy playing video games 🎮

I think it’s perfect to call all your artwork paintings. Lindsay Weirich does and it makes sense. I felt drawn to pastels after watching her videos so I have them now and got pan pastels for Christmas, I started a painting but haven’t finished it yet.

As you know, I dabble in realism and I remember that podcast very well. It was the first time I'd ever heard anyone talk about this 'curse' and your views exactly mirrored my own (at the time). I was really struggling to feel confident as a creative. Since then I've embraced realism. I just love creating all the details so much. But...like you...I seem to love all styles and mediums. I think a true creative can turn their hand to anything if they give it a try, and try again. Like your artistic journey goes around and around, you are feeding your creative with new experiences. The realism is still part of your creativity, and I'm glad to see you circle back occasionally. As for all the birbs this month, Yeah, I'd be sick of drawing them by now too! Thanks for sharing the Ornoblanco. I've dug mine out, but I'm working in your lovely journal at the moment.

Haha it makes me laugh when I think back to that podcast now. What a stir! I love seeing everything you do, your realistic stuff but most of all your sketchbook experiments and doodles. They always make me smile. I think you’re right, a true creative can turn their hand at anything, even if they are not very good at one thing it’s all about having a go isn’t it. Sometimes I really fancy sitting and drawing something realistic and sometimes I don’t. And when I do it tends to be something way smaller 😂 I’m still traumatised over that massive people portrait I did I think 🤦🏻‍♀️ What I don’t like is how I feel like I get stuck in that comfort zone of details and I struggle so much to get out of it! But I do actually think that’s a mindset problem 😅

Such an interesting chat about realism and its impact. I’ve been a realistic pet portrait artist and actually my pov is that I learned all the classical art building blocks first by working up to that, and now I feel like I have the knowledge to break free and loosen up now. My favourite naive style art is that which also looks sophisticated somehow (not like a 3 year old did it, as so often my scribbles end up as 😂). I think if you go straight into naive and abstract art, it’s much harder without an appreciation of the basics like light and shade, form, composition, colour theory etc. I’m loving being way more playful and have no plans to go back to realistic portraiture!
@Little_Ammy_Arts
@Little_Ammy_Arts 5 күн бұрын
Interesting! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts ☺️ My problem is, I don’t think I actually learned many skills when I was doing the realism, I traced every outline so I don’t feel like I learned sketching skills other than the correct proportions on a dogs face, which I still struggle to get right when drawing it on my own now. I didn’t learn any colour theory as I used to colour pick from the reference photo and match my pencils to it.. I’m not saying I learned nothing but I have learned so much more since experimenting with loose sketching and abstracts and making a big mess now than I ever did before.. also saying that, I learned most of my colour theory skills from when I tried oil painting so that was an absolute asset to me. I am grateful for the observational skills realism gave me though. That’s one big thing I have learned from it. And correct fur direction 😂 The whole thing is a journey isn’t it and I am truly grateful for every single part of it!
@thefrostedblueberryart
@thefrostedblueberryart 4 күн бұрын
@@Little_Ammy_Arts ahh I see, yeah tracing and colour picking is a big short cut, you’re right - it’s not that it doesn’t teach you anything, it’s just much harder to learn if you don’t break it down brick by brick and build it back up again. Or at least that’s the way my brain works! But you know, it’s the journey that I love the most about art making. It’s all about the practice, not the result and it’s a joyful world of constant learning which I love.
@Little_Ammy_Arts
@Little_Ammy_Arts Күн бұрын
I agree! Every single day we are learning something new with art and creativity and it brings so much joy ☺️ I think I always took extra shortcuts with my realistic art and that never did help me but everyone I learned from always traced and gave the outlines so I just thought it was the way of things.. It feels so much more fulfilling now I’ve learned to draw and make my own pieces from scratch. I look back at my sketchbooks from last year and feel so proud at the time and effort spent 😊

This whole thing about people criticizing for art haul videos is utter nonsense. I don’t watch videos I’m not interested in and I don’t use it as an excuse to push my standards on others. I like art hauls and I’m a someone who doesn’t like having too many things. I get to feeling overwhelmed but that’s a whole other subject. I watch because I like to see what other people are interested in, if they end up liking it and some times, on a rare occasion, I see something new that I might like. Those people who like to push their ideals on other people need to remember that it’s none of their business what other people spend their money on, or collect and they only look to be very jealous and petty people. I also don’t sugar coat things either. Can you tell? 😊
@Little_Ammy_Arts

I 100% agree with you. And I love people who don’t sugar coat things! I didn’t even think of how it isn’t other people’s business what you spend your money on. My husband says that if this is what I want to do for my business then I would need to keep collecting the art supplies to make videos about as that is the very thing I’m making my living on.. which I also agree with and won’t argue with 😂 a bit far away from making a living yet though.. I keep spending it on art supplies 🤣 I appreciate your comment, thank you!

Similarly to you I had a Derwent drawing black and a white and maybe a terracotta when I was a teenager and didn't really get much out of them. I found an old pencil case recently at my parents house and found the black, so recently I bought the white as I have heard so many good things about it online. Haven't got really stuck into it yet, but I plan on doing a lot of coloured backgrounds in my sketchbook so I think it could be great for that. I'm also a big fan of the Ecoline pens. I find them so useful but am now at the point I really don't need any more. Things on my mental wish list : the gansai tambi art nouveau set. But I don't know if it's just because everyone else seems to have it that I want it, so I am letting it just sit at the back of my mind for a good while before I take the plunge.

The Derwent Drawing white is my favourite white! It’s yet to be beaten for opaqueness for me. I bet I’ve gotten through 10-15 of those pencils so far 😂 I wish I still had my first set of Derwent Drawing! I bought the Gansai Tambi art nouveau set because I saw everyone had it 😂 but I loved the colours and if I’m honest it’s one of my favourite art supplies I own right now. I loved them so much I bought the big 48 set but I don’t use that half as much as the art nouveau colours!

I’m always amazed by people expecting that public content should be catered to their individual taste when all they have to do is scroll if something is outside their taste. I, personally, am thrilled you did an art haul! You do a great job introducing us to products we may not know about but that you appreciate. Now, question…what prompted you to seek out the Shin Han gouasche? I know very little about this product line - does it have a really good reputation? Also…jaune brilliant is lovely as a watercolor (transparent) - a gorgeous sky wash color.

I think it’s just the new way of things now unfortunately. A lot of people seem to be very entitled and expect everyone to cater to them or else you’re a terrible person! I won’t be doing it 😂 So thank you for your comment! I really appreciate it. The gouache - honestly I just saw that the Shinhan had the most amazing colour range! And I have tried the Winsor and Newton and the Schmincke. I’ve seen Sarah Burns use and love the Shinhan so I thought I might buy a few tubes! It feels so creamy in texture so I’m really excited about them.
